The problem is not that they think ww1 was terrible, just that they feel the need to use an image to bash on gay people, especially considering it is clearly bait.

Not really related to typical submissions here, but these sort of threads are a good illustration of why I hate reddit. It is a cute picture of two animals, so of course nearly every comment has to make the same stupid joke about the rat being a meal.

Not cute, not funny, just predictable annoyingness. Much like every picture of a cow has a million "mm juicy steaks" comments underneath it. Must you people ruin my love for cute things with boring cynicism? That's why I try to never visit the comments of /r/aww.

That's the fan fiction I meant. Its concept is basically to rewrite / edit DH. It's not brilliant or anything, but I think if you look at the writing choices made by the author it would demonstrate some issues with JKR's writing in the last book.

To be honest, I found it a bit difficult to muster much respect for creationism. When you are young and people keep promoting this clearly illogical idea as something to base your life around it becomes all too much to not try to convince them they're wrong. I was always utterly confused that otherwise intelligent people could be taken in by religion.

Now I'm a bit older and I no longer care at all though, and I find it much easier to empathize and consider other people's perspective.

Quite evident in this post is the similarity between "lol I'm just using homophobic slurs because they're edgy" and "I think gay people need to know their place" as if there ever was any doubt. If you think homophobic slurs are okay because gay people are acceptable targets you're probably a bigot even if you want to cloak it in free expression.

I always suspect the userbase of /r/atheism is quite young, because this obnoxious notion of constantly having to confront others about their beliefs seems like an adolescent thing to do. I know that when I was 15 I literally could not understand why religion was still accepted given the power of science to explain the world around us. I think kids are bad at understanding and empathizing with perspectives other than their own.

There's like ~15x more activity on the LoL, CS:GO and Dota2 subreddits than here. These threads about "is SC2 declining??" used to be interesting in 2012 when it first started to become obvious, nowadays it's just sad and nobody cares anymore.

I know there isn't a tournament going on, but look at the stream numbers right now: Heroes of the Storm, Overwatch, Diablo III, Hearthstone, World of Warcraft literally are all being watched more. The really popular games all have like ~15-30x stream viewers.

It's great that a handful of people still enjoy themselves playing and watching SC2, but for the most part it's just dead. If people still cared then there would have been a regular 20k people watching streams even without tournaments, but they're gone and moved on to brighter things.

Jakatak, Feardragon, Neuro or Lycan being considered important personalities is more evidence.

Sorry for the links, that's the only way to demonstrate my opinion (so if you have two days to read it all, thanks).

First of all, I would recommend reading this essay 1 which more or less states my position. Also highly recommended are the rest of the essays (e.g. under Scorecard).

Here are some criticisms of Deathly Hallows from a general writing perspective: the deadly hollow sporks 2 -- the easiest is to just click next entry each time and go through the chapters. The Ferretbrain review of DH 3 and his examining of the series' morality here 4

Here 5 is a good collection of posts on Dumbledore. He doesn't always come off very well on a closer reading of the books.

And I have read one directly comparable alternate version of Deathly Hallows (where the author seeks to improve the pacing, writing etc. while sticking to a mostly familiar story) that I find more readable and believable, but unfortunately I can't find it online anymore.

Personally I find the last two books extremely unsatisfying. Reading DH was like torture with the pretentious writing, the endless camping trip, the manufactured ending with inconsistent wandlore placed centrally, the crude Jesus and Nazi metaphors employed throughout, the plagiarized imagery (e.g. endless LotR movie rip-offs).

And the moral message of the series becomes: don't show any ambition, &, you can divide the world into good and bad people independent of their actions. Rowling has some aspects of being an anti-intellectual, anti-feminist, conservative author and if you read the books critically it becomes apparent they might not be a good influence on children.

ShitRedditSays 内の Minn-ee-sottaa によるリンク /r/politics, Donald Trump says Islam ruining Europe. "is he wrong?" [+73]

[–]laiki 18ポイント19ポイント  (0子コメント)

Political discourse about Muslims in Europe these days is often indistinguishable from antisemitism in Europe in the past century. Hate speeche is becoming normalized for the past decade under the guise of "freedom" to stand up for "Western Values". It's no longer a fringe position that lies outside of the mainstream, instead the political elements that espouse it get to have ~30-50% support from the public and are part of coalition governments and so on.

Trump represents vast amounts of the American electorate and has established anti-Muslim racism as a major political force in the West beyond just Europe. And Reddit is a major website that influences a lot of opinions and at this point is one of the world's major anti-Islam staging grounds.

Discussing the Muslim question is now a national sport and even people with good intentions often don't discourage it because that would be anti-free speech and anti-democracy or whatever pious nonsense. I imagine that it can get really tiresome for Muslims to constantly have to suffer these debates.

Reddit admins and mods should take their civic responsibility and actually do something about discouraging the racism here. They easily have the power to transform the culture here, and if they don't they should be held accountable for being a force of evil.

It's because you said this:

Rowling did such a beautiful job of weaving the story- every thread was pretty but the overall tapestry was stunning when the full story was revealed. I remember finishing HBP and DH and going back and reading the earlier books and finding clues and references to later revelations. I know I'm not the only one here who has done that! It leads to such a deeper understanding of the characters and the motivations and you feel closer to the story. It's magical...

You went simply beyond admiring the series towards actually calling it very well woven together, which I just feel can't be that well defended from an objective level. Especially towards the end it becomes clear that JKR does not know how to write a satisfying ending that does not damage the integrity of the themes and the world, and that her version of the story is actually more shallow than what exists in fandom.

I'm not alone in thinking it would have been best had she simply not written Deathly Hallows and instead left it as an open ending for fans to explore, and I'm not saying that out of general prejudice against endings but due to the clear failures on her part. Nevertheless, this is not something one would think of if only exposed to, say, this subreddit which treats JKR as on some level infallible and would never acknowledge the (honestly) incredibly obvious difference in quality between the first 3-5 books and the last two.

Is there anything in that main post which is true at all? Most of it seems to concern doxxing by people other than SRS, so I don't understand the leap of logic to blame SRS for it.

Also, those posts he linked of people taking responsibility for doxxing etc. read just like your garden variety false-flag 4chan stuff, I really doubt anyone even remotely affiliated with SRS did those things. Most likely it's some group of trolls that happened to dislike /pol/ or gamergate or whatever and adopted some SRS-esque language.

Most of the OP is links to things SRS has clearly nothing to do with. SRS is just not affiliated at all with this "fempire action squad" that apparently claims responsibility for CWM's departure nor are they responsible for the gamergate dox stuff.

And the link to the proof of SRS brigading is misleading and also doesn't have a later post from the same admin saying that SRS does not brigade.

This is like if I were to make an expose of SRC and fill it with links to generic alt-right hate sites.

Great standards of proof guys, you are obviously all very rational.
