I understand the politics of what youre saying (even if what youre saying is some what distorted) however what i cant understand is why the hell do people hate us about our gun issues and religion. In the end who gives a fuck. You hate someone or get angry with people simply on the notion that they like god and guns??? Is that really a reason to hate and be biased against someone? Dont you think that kind of hatred is a littel childish and immature and also dangerous? I mean whats the difference between that and the reasons a terrorist goes and blows themselves up. There really isnt except for maybe the degree and action. However the concept of the anger is still the same. And considering the AUD issue, that blame is entirely on your government and has absolutely nothing to do with america. Also our culture from movies to music and whatnot, well isnt that also your fault as well. Theres tremendous fan base and love for american music stars and movies as well. Its not that we're throwing it in your faces, its that we're showing it to you guys and you guys love it. singers from taylor swfit , rihana, beyonce, and katy perry are sold out shows whenever they perform in your country. This isnt the fault of ours but perhaps the fault of your fellows. And do you know how many Australians stars there are making a living in Hollywood. from margot robbie, cate blanchet, hugh jackman, and etc... this is simply part of something we call globalization. But thanks for the honesty

No one is going to hate on an American personally for it unless they have a shitty personality.

Many Americans do not appear to understand that American gun culture is what causes the truly horrific levels of gun violence in the USA. Your country has the equivalent of the Port Arthur massacre on a regular basis. For us, it was a once-in-a-lifetime event. So yeah, we give a fuck. We don't want that to be normal.

The worst part about the gun debate is when Australia's laws are called a failure. Don't expect us to say there is nothing wrong with your system because anyone can see you guys are up Shit Creek without a paddle.

I wasnt defending our gun laws. You do understand that many americans dont own a gun. And that most americans who do have guns usually have more than one. i do blieve that the avg is around 3. The thing about us is that the ones who dont have a gun usually dont speak out; the ones who do ,well do. thats why the media is portraying only the ones who have them; hence everyone thinks americans are gun toting people.

Australians are very chill and laid back - we are always happy to introspect and call out bullshit when it is there.

Hence, we find the wild-west gun fanaticism, the extreme nationalism and the attachment to religion immature at best and cringeworthy at worst. There's also this sense that American's think every country is below there own.

Obviously these are very broad statements and don't apply to everyone, it might be the explanation you are after.

There's a lot more to some of these things. For instance, attitudes towards guns reflect a huge cultural difference. The US is more individualistic (I should have a gun to protect myself), whereas Australia is more communal (nobody should have guns so we'll all be safe). My advice to both Americans travelling to Aus & Australians travelling to the US is to never bring up guns.

There's a heap of other cultural differences. It's a lot easier for an Aussie visiting the US than vice versa. We're surrounded by US culture, so we already understand it. Not so for Americans.

Just be aware of this. You'll most likely have a great time here. I know several Americans that have moved here permanently after visiting. Just watch our for the drop bears.

But thats my whole point why would you hate someone becasue they liked guns? They are infact many responsible gun owners who dont go around shooting and killing people; in fact most of them dont. This too me is the exact same argument with that of the muslims. 1 billion plus muslims however only a small handful are terrorists; and yet no one would even dare hate a muslim or call them terrorist based on the actions of a idiotic few. So what im saying is that there is a tremendous hypocrisy going on here and i do have to say in large part due to the Media.

Many people in both your country and mine do in fact hate Muslims as a group and call them terrorists based on the actions of an idiotic few.

You asked for our honest opinion on your gun culture, but instead of accepting it you get all defensive.

The image you are projecting is exactly what many dislike about America and Americans.

[–]casper129q[S] 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

Im not getting defensive. I just want people to know that there are two sides to every equation.

[–]invincibl_ 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

The subtler point here is that Australian culture is different and for example views things like guns differently. Going back to Muslims, it'd be a bit like going to a Muslim person's house for dinner and then talking about how delicious bacon is.

It's not about two sides, it's about being aware and sensitive to cultural differences.

You hate someone or get angry with people simply on the notion that they like god

Most Australian's don't mind people being religious, all faiths are welcome here but what doesn't fly when people advertise and push their religion on others. Especially in any way that affects decisions that should be based on reason and not faith. There's no chance schools here would teach intelligent design in science class and that the faith of your politicians has a significant affect on their electability, that seems backwards to us.

But thats my whole point why would you hate someone becasue they liked guns? They are infact many responsible gun owners who dont go around shooting and killing people; in fact most of them dont.

The problem isn't the gun owners directly, it's the gun laws that they support and make guns so easily available to criminals. Why not choose another hobby that doesn't require laws that put the whole community at risk? The gun issue is a symptom of larger philosophical differences. Differences that highlight to us why America is so dysfunctional.

Yes. Both are pretty much antithetical to our society (antithetical => directly opposed or mutually incompatible).

And your comments about Terrorists just further annoy us. You brought the Terrorism thing on yourselves.

We want none of these things being imported into our society.

One of the problems is that many Americans have no idea of their image in the rest of he world. If you genuinely want some insight on this, you need to read "Why Do People Hate America?"
