it's easy to sit back and criticize. The truth is he was an amazing leader. Every national leader had multiple military commanders and experts coming to them with their own doctrine and strategic plans. For Hitler to pick the mobile warfare doctrine and blitzkrieg tactics (doctrines that had never been tried before) was a great choice for reasons that would soon become obvious. French/ English generals and experts pitched the same (or similar) doctrines to their leaders and commanders and were turned down.

People blame all the losses after Stalingrad directly on Hitler but give no credit for the early war victories it doesnt make any sense. Yes he made mistakes after Stalingrad but it was a lose/lose situation. If you abandon Stalingrad you have to start a full scale retreat in southern Russia. If you stay in Stalingrad you risk a large encirclement but you also have a strong anvil if the line holds for the reinforcing tank divisions from the north to counter attack.

In the end it didnt work out but i have never seen an alternate plan that secures victory at Stalingrad. Holding Stalingrad was the best shot at breaking the Russian military's back and it failed.

After that Hitler and his generals knew the war was over you can hear him talking to the Finnish president shortly after in a recently released conversation he knows its over what he is looking for now is a hail mary so all the super weapon programs start up and the strategic tactics become alot more desperate because they know Germany can not win a prolonged war.

To say Hitler was a terrible Military commander is about as far from the truth as you can get.

Near the end of the war he was also constantly fucked up due to all of the drugs his quack doctor was feeding him, could have influenced some if his bad decisions.
