Doesn't mention that he also wants completely open borders to go along with this.

This is the one thing I completely disagree with the Libertarian party on. I get it from a purely philosophical standpoint, but in practice, I think it's a horrible idea. Were all countries on a level playing, sure, but we arent there yet. That said, I'd still rather vote for a libertarian candidate than the two crooked scumbags we are going to have to choose from.

Agreed. It makes sense if we could achieve full on anarcho-capitalism, but I don't think that's possible or maintainable.

Serious question, too, in a truly anarcho-capitalist society, what happens to the poor who can't afford police protection? Who can't afford medical insurance? What prevents indentured servitude and slavery? When the only law is "self-regulation" and "the free hand of the market" what stops large corporations from owning company towns and paying police forces to keep people from leaving them?

There are some services IMO that just shouldn't be privatized. Police, fire departments, and military are big ones. Roads and other civil services (street lights, traffic control, national parks) are other big ones.

People don't ever answer those questions but the real world does. We have parts of the world that have no police force and warlords protect people who pay for it. In the end those 'fees' are not a voluntary capitalistic choice anymore, if you don't pay you will be killed or abused by the ones who collect the money.

Anarcho Capitalism is a little silly, because the corporations and warlords who end up owning areas and towns are the functional equivalent of a government. It's just not a possible model in today's society.

Card carrying Libertarian here. The only open-borders makes sense to us is when there is no welfare state. We had open borders for a long, long time. Those were very good for the country because the people that arrived had no choice but to be productive. With the welfare state, open borders aren't a good idea since people don't arrive to work. They arrive to welfare.

Pretty sure he said in the last debate only after the welfare state is gone.

At this point, all the candidates do. Some are just more honest about it than others.

I don't like claims without proof.

[–]hulking_menaceConservative[S] -4ポイント-3ポイント  (34子コメント)

Which candidate do you think doesn't?

How about donald trump

gave you an upvote, finally found someone on here who knows the truth/facts.

What evidence do you have that each candidate does? Can you provide a quote from each that says they do?

You made the comment so the burden of proof is on you.

In the interests of brevity, it's nice to know who you're wondering about. I'm commenting casually on reddit, not writing my thesis.

The only one who claims to want borders.

Rand Paul sure doesn't IIRC.

[–]hulking_menaceConservative[S] 6ポイント7ポイント  (1子コメント)

He's out though. I'm just talking about people still running.

What? I hate Trump more than anyone, but how can you say he wants open borders?

[–]NC_BATHROOM_POLICE 0ポイント1ポイント  (2子コメント)

What's the libertarian logic behind open borders?

Freedom of movement. If you want to immigrate, it should be as easy as possible, like our great great grandparents coming to Ellis Island.

The protectionist view says we should prevent immigrants to protect American jobs. But free markets say labor should compete for those jobs.

That is not to say you should encourage people to come illegally. You should still follow protocol.

Open borders only make sense to us Libertarians after the welfare state is dismantled.

There's no problem with open borders if we don't have a welfare state attracting them like moths to a lantern
