@ Delta: Yes it's horrible, but don't forget pretty much any side did some massacres. You seriously don't think any american shot some defensless and/or civilian person? And not to mention the Soviets... you play soviet in the campaign, and you don't think they were brutal, lol? American soldiers didn't invade civilian towns, fighting whatever rag-tag defense they had and either knowingly led the way for mass executions of civilians or take part in it first hand. Also, Soviets were brutal, but they were brutal against Soviet soldiers. If you didn't do your job as a soldier, they killed their own. It's kinda different that executing civilians. I don't think anybody is saying the Wehrmacht were all hardcore Nazi sympathizers, but they were not innocent when it comes to murdering innocents and atrocities. Early in the war, and especially in the eastern front, they were responsible for executions. Before the death camps were even thought up, wehrmacht soldiers would drag a truckload of innocent people and spend all day shooting them down one by one in a ditch. Saying that the occasional accidental death of an innocent by American hands is the same as this is completely ignorant of history. Oh, and America and Britain fire bombed Dresden to the ground. It served little to no military purpose. It was a cultural center and was nicknamed Florence on the Elbe. This happened just a few weeks before the war in Europe was over. Estimated 40,000 dead civilians. |
(Really wish there was an edit button) RE: Soviets only brutal to soviet soldiers and not civilians. Dead wrong. The Red Army raped, tortured, and butchered so many women during their advancement to Berlin and while in the city itself. These acts were carried out against women of ALL AGES from little girls to grandmothers. |
Not to mention that in the late period of the war (which this game is supposed to take place in) just about every German male who was old enough to fight was conscripted (and even some who weren't) so there were many soldiers who wanted absolutely nothing to do with the war and the violence. Of course, this isn't taught much in history classes, because history is written by the victors, it's much easier to justify a war if we paint them all as evil monsters. |
A1B2C3CAL posted... not many wehrmacht soldiers were reallly nazis, most were normal people, like british and russian soldiers. and yes soviet soldiers raping civillians was wrong, but it was an act of rage, they had had there country ripped apart. |
To hell with everyone argueing from a moral standpoint THIS IS WAR and everything goes. I dont give a **** if the guys im playing are considered by the upper moral echelon of society to be baby eating demons hell i hate babies and demons are awesome. Also alot of people can aggre that the series is getting stale and we wuld really need to play on someones else side to mix it up. allthough knowing the modern worlds perception of the german army it wuld proably turn into some **** redemption story where there is a 90% that the german we are playing goes like this 'AMAGAD CIVILIANS GETTING KILLED THIS IS EVIL IVE GOT TO SWITCH SIDES AND KILL MY OWN COUNTRYMEN FOR LULZ DISREGARD THE FACT THIS IS WAR LOL WE ARE EVIL' |
Ive got deja vu with this topic. The SS were an elite , in every sense of the word. They were hand picked and schooled separately. The Wermact were initally jealous of the SS as they often received better equipment, ahead of the reuglar soldiers. The SS soon won the wermacht admiration with their fanatical fighting spirt and desire to win. Regular soldiers would be happy to know thnat they had an SS regiment to support them in combat. Initally the deathhead units were involved in the deathcamps, or Tottenkompf. their deathhead motive was copied by other SS divisions. Did the SS commit war crimes? Thats an emphatic yes. Their Adolf Hitler units were involved in the murder of British captives near Dunkirk. They also targeted churches, and held their own SS ceremonies, including marriages. The SS saw themselves as the 'guardians iof the light". |
