          Well, the internet can be the great equalizer, where you can say things that you wouldn't say in real life. This can lead to racists and bigots, or it can lead to closeted atheists or gays speaking freely.

          To a somewhat lesser extent, however, it also allows men to appreciate the attractiveness of other men. That doesn't indicate that they themselves are attracted to men in the slightest, but they can admit when another man succeeds at looking good. If they do this too much in real life, their friends/family may start to suspect them of being gay, and that can lead to awkward circumstances, especially with people that won't believe your word that you're straight (from both sides - homophobes and people that are oversupportive and try to demonstrate they're acceptiveness by not-so-subtley encouraging you to come out).

                                  I have a gay cousin who is considered very good looking and our experiences with coming out, even to our own family, have been completely different for a number of reasons. he decided to come out on his own to our family because he was in a relationship and didnt want to have to hide it, and I was pretty much outed to my family by my mother who decided to read a journal I kept in which I described romantic feelings I had for a coworker, so she confronted me and I came out to her. Next day all of her siblings knew and then their kids (my other cousins) and so on... But besides that, I've always seen my cousin surrounded by other beautiful gay men and they usually act very snobby and dismissive to me. I've always struggled to maintain friendships and rarely socialize with other gay guys.

                                  being ugly and a gay man is a very lonely life. even other ugly gay guys dont really want to mess with you whereas ugly straight guys can still find a parter because there seem to be plenty of good women who care more about personality than looks. the "community" of gay men is extremely shallow and your worth is based almost entirely on your appearance.
