[Discussion] Team mentality (self.reddevils)

Well, after just having finished watching Giant Killing (a great soccer anime btw, even one of the team cheers is Glory East Tokyo United!), but that's not what I'm here to talk about.

Basically, the sinopsis is that a player that was a legend for the club comes back to be the team's coach (while the team was doing bad)

Much of the work he does is to unite the team and give them the thing that they were missing for a long time, which was the winning mentality.

How would you describe our team's mentality?

To be honest, I think that we have kinda lost the winning mentality we used to have, which in turn also makes our football look a lot more boring, It seems the players themselves have no idea of what the other players are thinking, which is a BIG part of football.

This is not a LVG IN/OUT thread, even though he might be partially at fault, but he seems to want players to feel the 'hornyness' of wanting to win...

I do think, though, that our team's cohesivenes is lacking, and that even though our future looks good in terms of talent, I'm more worried about the mental aspect.

Because, if we think about it, even our current players have talent. They are good with their feet (most of them).

What're your opinions on this?

Well the thing is, we got no player like Keano - a leader with such passion/aggression and maybe even violence. Rooney used to do that but now he's a docile lamb. Our mentality against weak team is pretty crappy - we mostly get our potential and passion in bigger games.

Exactly, but we can't forget that it is against the weaker teams that many championships are decided... I just wonder how could we get that mentality back.

simple 1. new manager 2. new players 3. or experience from older players, which we lack right now - which I hope Rooney to get sometime later on

mentalities are things that one cannot change easily in short time

I know, but then we also have the other point I talked about, about the relationships inside the team... they look dire, and I would even say toxic. Our players don't really seem to know each other, or the way they think...

I beg to differ. The relationships between players i think is good enough for a positive mentality. We aint no chelshit

I just think that they could be better, I don't say that they should be best friends or anything, but sometimes I'd like for them to link up better ahah

haha,a fellow weeb Utd fan cheers mate.i'll give this show a shot.

i think winning mentality can be acquired once we actually start winning again.i mean look at Leicester,a relegation squad and a manager who has won nothing,and then look at Chelsea who went from walking the league to shit in the space of months.

so i think what we are lacking is simply confidence rather than mentality

I think that's also part of it, if we look at it, Leicester won it partially due to their confidence and because they know what their team mates think. They are cohesive. They had the confidence, which then gave them the mentality to keep winning.

I seriously think we lack it, and is one of the reasons why we have been so down since Sir Alex retired. He brought much of that mentality
