Today i learned im a Wehraboo (self.ShitWehraboosSay)

So i was featured in the weekly thread today. And believe it or not, i am not a wheraboo. Im even subscribed to this subreddit since about a week. I never thought of myself as a wheraboo and thought the things i knew where right and so i was defending german tanks, KD and small arms in a polandball thread. But quickly people there and here pointed out that i am wrong and so on. I first didnt want to believe it but now after thinking about it, i have to confess that i am a Wheraboo. It seems that all i knew so far (or believed in knowing) was wrong and i should really start reading some books about WW2 and not wikipedia LOL

I just wanna say thank you. Without me being featured in todays weekly thread i would have never considered me being a wheraboo. Btw, my name is AGermanGuy because i am german couldnt think of something better.

Btw, does anyone have any good not wheraboo or sovietboo or anythingboo books about WW2 that i can read? Preferably in german but english is okay too.

TLDR: Im not a wehraboo but a wehraboo, rofl.

First step is admitting you have a problem.

But seriously it happens. We live in a world were we have all the information we'll ever need at our finger tips but a metric fuck ton of it is misinformation. It makes it harder that people who peddle that shit will try and undercut actual good information in place for something that aligns with their narrative. Look at Sandy Hook truthers for example. Any type of error is blown up to be a huge conspiracy.

Fact checking is key.

I think conspiracy theories are fun to talk about. I don't hold truck in any of them but it's an entertaining topic. But you come into my home with that Sandy Hook stuff and you're no longer welcome. Something makes my stomach churn when thinking about Sandy Hook and when some edgy contrarian starts calling parents who lost their five year olds crisis actors I just see red. I can't handle it. Something literally breaks inside of me.

Also it's one of the dumbest conspiracies out there. All they have is questions. There's no geopolitics or national security issue to cover up the truth. There was one of the saddest attempts at gun regulation afterwards that failed hard. None of the garbage they spew to reinforce their paranoid and nihilistic world view is in any way convincing. They just shit on the memories of dead kids and their parents.

I wouldn't say all they have are questions but their evidence is....lmao just stupid.

For example, a news got the date wrong...that's it. Yet to them that is cold hard proof that something is afoot. Also after the Peshwar(sp?) school shooting happened, a woman was seen holding a sign with pictures of kids that died. One however was not a kid from Peshwar but actually Sandy Hook. Which seems fishy till you think, "hey wait...could it be possible some one was so angry at what happened that they grabbed a picture of a kid after searching peshwar school shooting?"

Some of it is narascism("Oh it a big conspiracy theory to get me") and some of it is being unable to fathom a world where a man can look a 6 year old in the eyes and shoot. And then some of it are just people who have decided to give their humanity to be an ass hole.

I think that has a lot to do with it. I think a lot of the wehraboo apologism comes from the same line of thinking. It is sometimes too terrifying to accept what other humans have done to each other without so much as blinking.

And you're dead on about their "evidence" too. It would be silly if we weren't talking about Sandy Hook.

I mean, our main objection is to use the firebombings as tu quoques or to draw moral equivalencies. The bombings raids whle based in sound logic are definitely ethically iffy and international law is convoluted enough tjat the bombings could be argued to have violated them.

At the time they most certainly did not violate international law. No Germans were prosecuted for any sort of bombing related crimes after the war even though their bombing at Stalingrad for example was responsible for four times as many civilian deaths as Dresden.

I mean just look at the wikipedia entries for the bombing of Stalingrad and Dresden. Stalingrad has pretty much nothing there, just blames Stalin for the deaths, while Dresden is packed full of all the propaganda shit wehraboos come up with to make out as if Germany was the poor victim.

Don't feel too bad.

Pop history shows and history-channel documentaries basically are Wehraboo fodder. Heck, when my kid was younger and watching those "greatest tank battles" shows, I had to explain to him that the Germans weren't the heroes, because of how the show made them look.

If you want books to read, anything by Glantz is a great place to start, though he warned, he's an ex-military guy and is rather dry.

I was always under the impression that the German education on "the pros and cons of National Socialism and Fascism" was much more thorough than in any other country, so I would actually expect less German wehraboos then for instance Swedish or American.
