In BBC, when you press up, your character goes forwards. New players usually get disoriented and present their balloons to you. That's the time to strike.
When playing against seasoned opponents, it's all about striking quickly. This game can be over in 3 seconds so it's important to watch your back. My favorite tactic is to ram someone head on. This will cause both characters to turn 90 degrees. If you time it right, you can then pop your opponent's balloon because you now have a much better angle of attack. This can obviously backfire though, and it's always advisable to stay near the wall.
