Rules		Description

6. No Porn or Gore		There are many other subreddits for such content.
7. No Solicitation of Votes or Views. No Asking for Votes or Sharing Submission Links On or Off-Site (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)		Violations can lead to a permanent ban of accounts and video channels.
8. No Hate Speech		You are free to offer your opinion respectfully, but comments or posts intended to demean a group, acontextual expressions of bigotry, and the pejorative use of slurs is disallowed.
9. No Videos of Real-Life, Malicious Person-On-Person Assault/Battery or Physical Abuse of Animals		This includes raw videos of fights.
10. No Third Party Licensing		No videos that are licensed by a third party. Videos that become licensed after they are posted will be removed. Please see this thread for a more detailed explanation.

I don't think it was a waste of time. And I doubt management did either...And definitely not an embarrassment. They tried.

That works for people until about the age of 18, then you stop getting As for Effort.

They may have failed, but it's more funny than anything.

Sure, as an employee I wouldn't want to be there either.

That's why this is a failure. That's why this is a waste. That's why nothing would be better than an expensive farce. That's why participation awards stop eventually.

But I can still see what the company was trying to do and Im not against that in any way.

A conservation of resources is a success. That's why we get promotions for coming in under budget.

A waste of resources is a failure. A project that benefits a small portion of the company but hinders a large body of the company wastes resources implicitly and explicitly.

This... concert... did little or nothing of benefit to this large body of employees. As a project manager, this project would have been DOA purely on cost analysis - there is zero chance that Siemens gained anything in comparable dollar value to what they spent.

There's really no practical argument for this goofy display.

Sure it is. When you need to hold a mandatory morale function, that means your overall employee morale is probably garbage due to perhaps pay cuts, pay freeze, lack of essential equipment, lack of sick days/PTO. Not being flexible with events in an employee's life.

I'm only a mid-level manager, but I make it a point to see my people, speak with them daily, schedule 1 on 1 meetings once a month for them to let me know how they're doing and if there's anything they need. I help them work around life schedules (kids, doctor appointments, etc.). I give them my personal number for emergencies. I treat them as people and as equals and respect and promote the work they do.

It's starts from the bottom up. No one is expecting a CEO to relate directly to them, but things like giving higher ups raises while your pay has been frozen for two years and sending out "Golly gee, we can't afford to give everyone raises this year" emails while having dracoian and inflexible policies generally send the message that you are a cog in the machine and are only worth what you can output.

How do you "show respect" to an entire workforce?

Give them responsibilities to match their level of competence. This means letting your principal scientists who have already made the company millions if not billions of dollars actually test some of their new product ideas without forcing them to fill in a time sheet with every hour coded to an "official" project.

This mean letting your sales team actually talk to customers with whom they have already developed a 10-year relationship without having to document the names of each person in the customer organization with whom they had a 2-minute conversation.

This means firing 50% of your accountants and project managers and letting people just be professionals who can do amazing things for your company if you would just get off their fucking backs with the pointless controlling bullshit.
