I'm not asking to be shady but why do people think Kim deserves to win? I suppose that, yes, statistically she is equal to Bob but it's been argued many times on here that the show has seemed to protect her from being in the bottom. I don't get the Kim hype (i think she has beautiful, stunning, gorgeous looks and I realize she's been portrayed as cute and relatable but other than that idgi) so I'd just like someone to calmly tell me why so many people want her to win/think she should co-win with Bob.

I'm right there with you. I get that Kim has creativity and can pull off some very unique looks but I fail to see her charm as an entertainer. In fact, she's bored me because I'm not one to enjoy drag based on aesthetic.

I don't enjoy going to fashion shows. I don't enjoy going to makeup shows. I enjoy DRAG shows. If a queen happens to be skilled enough to incorporate high fashion and makeup into her act, even better, but when I go out to a club or a bar to enjoy a drag show, I want to be entertained by someone with high energy or someone who knows how to command attention. Even Bianca, who's not a dancer or one to lip-sync to songs, is still entertaining because of her comedy and that's just what a good MC brings to a drag show. WTF is Kim going to do? Come out on a stage and twirl in slow motion so people can admire her makeup and gowns? Yeah, no thanks!

Ross said it perfectly - Kim is a great representative of a new drag era. And I'm starting to get tired of people saying producers "protected" or "carried" her from the bottom - which is bullshit when other queens have always done so much worse than her, and it's such an insult and discredit to her performance.

Kim has passion, charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent and it all shows. She wants to expand her drag to Korea. Even if you don't like Kim you have to admit her drag is at such an amazing scale having only done it for 3 years.

A co-win with Bob I think people suggest because Kim and Bob honestly compliment each other so well. Bob's performance abilities mixed with Kim's creativity, charm and personality create the ultimate queen tbh.

I think Bob deserves to win but the reason I think Ru may choose Kim is because Kim is the most unique and brings something new to Ru's already talented collection of winners. Bob is so different to Bianca comedy-wise but the fact that they're both comedians from New York is a huge similarity in itself. Also Ru crowning Bob could potentially set Drag Race as exclusively a show where actors and comedians can only win.

Either way I'm happy with both winning as they are both deserving. Bob IMO should win based on his run this season alone, but Kim is the future. At the same time Kim learns really fast and applies critiques well - she's not a dancer or traditional performer but I am so excited to see where she takes her drag in the next few years. Bob is there, but Kim has so many doors to open for herself, and this show just gave her a fuckload of great opportunities!

as was violet, and when the show turned of it's lights drag just moved on. kim chi is an ARTIST, don't get me wrong, but that is her drag and this new era stuff hardly ever proves to be true.

Also Ru crowning Bob could potentially set Drag Race as exclusively a show where actors and comedians can only win.

Bebe, Raja, Tyra, Violet and Sharon all stryke me as queens who are more about their look or at least that their look is a great part of her act (sharon can act and do comedy to a good level, so i don't know how would you classify them). The show has acting challenges and comedy challenges as well as fashion challenges, you have to be able to do it all at least at a passable level.

Thanks for that well thought out answer. I definitely see that although I think it's worrisome to say what Kim does is the "Future of Drag". Queens like Kim and Pearl and all these other Insta-Queens are a FORM of drag but hopefully not the only "future" of it. Like Ru always says, it takes courage to go out in heels and a dress and a wig and perform. That's what drag has always been- going out and entertaining a crowd. It's much easier to put on a full face and take an instagram picture. RPDR is based off of Ru's experience as a queen and what it's been like to be an entertainer. I think Kim is S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G (and no shade to Pearl either bc I love her looks) but if they're the "Future of Drag" then it's not the same drag that RPDR is based around or trying to find.

"Future of Drag"

You're taking that quote too literally. It doesn't mean "this is what everyone should aspire to be". It just means it's a new generation of drag. A more tech-savvy type of drag. Kim Chi was famous pre-show just on Instagram alone, and having only done drag for three years I think that's an amazing achievement on itself.

[–]mmhoustohBob the Drag Queen 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

I see that. You're right. And yes, I think it's great that she's insta-famous pre-show but I don't think that warrants her as America's Next Drag Superstar in the RPDR sense (not that I think you're trying to say that).

Thanks again for explaining the Kim Chi love to me!

[–]fuckariKim Chi 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

No worries. You don't have to love her. Honestly I think Bob will win. But it's just sad that this sub has been discrediting Kim Chi just for the fact that people love her the most. It's the ugly side of this subreddit that I hate every season.

[–]getthelumpout 4ポイント5ポイント  (12子コメント)

I did think it was interesting that there was no acting or choreography at all in the final week this week, though. That does seem suspicious, you have to admit.

Also Ru crowning Bob could potentially set Drag Race as exclusively a show where actors and comedians can only win.

Also, come on. Look and fashion queens have won 5 out of 7 seasons so far.

[–]MatronneGeorgiaBob the Drag Queen 1ポイント2ポイント  (2子コメント)

The only look queens who won Drag Race are Raja and Violet, tbh.

[–]godiegoKimono You Didn't: Murasaki's Journey I'm Still Here 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

i would consider Bebe and Tyra to be fashion queens as well. runner-ups Raven and Nina would also be considered fashion. Sharon is a bit of a grey area (as inventor of Drag, she can do Anything).

[–]getthelumpout 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

That's why I said look and fashion. Raja, Violet, Bebe, Tyra and Sharon were all strong look/fashion/runway queens on their seasons. I don't think people would call any of them comedy queens first. And a "look" queen just won last season.

[–]fuckariKim Chi 1ポイント2ポイント  (8子コメント)

The song is The Realness. How the fuck is there gonna be choreography for a track like that? People are just grasping at straws at this point. Yall are delusional.

The only fashion winners are Tyra, Raja and Violet.

[–]getthelumpout 0ポイント1ポイント  (7子コメント)

First of all, you can do choreo to anything. And they chose the song--I'm sure they chose it for a reason. There was no acting either.

Secondly, regardless of who you consider look or fashion queens, the fact is, only one true "comedy" queen has won out of 7 seasons. So it's an exaggeration to all of a sudden say Bob winning would set Drag Race exclusively as a show where comedians can win when a look queen won just last season.

[–]fuckariKim Chi -2ポイント-1ポイント  (6子コメント)

Why do you create such a conspiracy from a challenge which, in 8 seasons has NEVER mattered. It's just queens being used for Ru's video. And she barely uses the acting scenes. Like season 5's video was a mess. Stop overthinking it.

Well Jinkx was an actor and Bianca was comedy and I like to include Ginger in the mix because she *was intended to win if not for the fan votes. In that case in the last 3 seasons it would have all been actors/performers. It's just an observation which you're obviously too hung up about.

[–]getthelumpout 1ポイント2ポイント  (4子コメント)

I like to include Ginger in the mix because she *was intended to win if not for the fan votes.

Lol OK, so you're making shit up basically. The fact is, Ginger didn't win. Violet won. And Violet is a look queen. Ginger is irrelevant to the conversation.

And let's be real--if acting and choreography was included in the last challenge, even if it didn't make a difference on who made the top 3, it would have made certain people look real bad in our last viewing of them before the finale.

Even if you include Jinkx as an actor, that's 2 out of 7 seasons. So again, it's an extreme exaggeration to say it's creating a show where only actors and comedians can succeed, and it just ain't true. Again--Violet won just last season.

[–]fuckariKim Chi -2ポイント-1ポイント  (3子コメント)

Why are you so mad? What the fuck do you expect to get out of lashing out at me?!

[–]getthelumpout 0ポイント1ポイント  (2子コメント)

Lol wut? I am not lashing out at you. There is no anger anywhere, henny. Seriously, I ain't mad--we are having a debate.

I'm simply addressing a point you made that is untrue. That is all.

[–]fuckariKim Chi 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

Sorry - it's just tiring having to explain myself over and over. If you don't like Kim Chi, that's fine. Like, I don't care. I LOVE Kim but I was #TeamBob all season. I just don't like when people try to say she didn't deserve her top 3.

[–]LHarkinsannoying rotten cunt. 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

because she *was intended to win if not for the fan votes.

You're insane if you think they thought Ginger would have a shot in the fan votes after they directly edited her negatively to be a villian to the underdogs Violet and Pearl. If they intended for her to win they'd have shone Violet being a bitch at the start of the season like all the queens say she was and then not give her a redemption and they wouldn't have cut to shady noises and disgusted faces every time Ginger told a joke

[–]LHarkinsannoying rotten cunt. 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

Calling someone the new era/future of drag is a bit ridiculous in my opinion.

She represents a visual art style of drag, but that is neither new nor will it be the sole future of drag. Look queens will continue on, comedy queens will continue on etc etc...."Future of drag" is just a buzzword/phrase that means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

[–]MatronneGeorgiaBob the Drag Queen 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yes to this! Kim was never protected by the producers, she was never one of the two worst in Bitch Perfect or Shady Politics, she deserved her place in the Top 3 (and 2) and showed that she can be professional. She adapted in challenges like acting or comedy which aren't her area of expertise. She never fucked up a challenge, she wasn't always the best but when she was, it was right! I wish she had won one more challenge, like the makeover one, so people wouldn't say she doesn't deserve this!

In addition, as a drag queen, without looking at the competition, she's something we've never seen before, she has a mesmerizing charisma when she's on the runway and she has such a fun personality, I would love to hang out with her and eat some fried chicken buttholes (not really but it's the thought that counts)! She's SO unique, her looks are amazing and I always feel like we've never seen the best of her, she definitely can bring even more on the runway. She couldn't bring her big avant-garde looks because of the luggage restriction but if she had done it, oh boy would we have been blown away! She might lack nerve in terms of stage presence but her doing Kim Jong-Un and bringing up "No Fats, No Fems, No Asians" show that she is not afraid to speak her mind, she's also very articulate! Talent, well it's obvious, her makeup and looks are out of this world, she may not be the best dancer, the best actress or the best comedian but she tried and never failed, to me.

I still think and want Bob to win because he has the most wins and his CUNT is amazing but Kim Chi is up there. I, personally, was rooting for Bob pre-season and all season long but I feel more and more in love with Kim, to the point where I didn't really cared about Bob in the challenges because I knew she was fine, but I was really connecting and rooting for Ms. Chi.
