Yesterday I was told I lack basic human decency when I tried to defend a friend of mine against an aggro horde that brianna wu sicked on him and he was kicked out of pax. He made a joke and brianna wu took it out of context as she is known to do and got her white knights to give him shit. It makes me wonder how people can still be neutral when the opposition is this despicable. Now his account has been deactivated and I haven't heard from him since. The dude was hilarious and completely harmless but because he made an off color joke everyone went apeshit. They act like harassment is this horrible thing but will do it to someone they don't like the first chance they get. Shit like that is why I support gamergate. I've never frequented those game journalism sites. I just hate corruption and people lying to further an agenda. I will stand with gamergaters for as long as it takes until this abomination of a journalism industry is either reformed or brought down.

What was the joke?

[–]weepingphantom 6ポイント7ポイント  (11子コメント)

A person he retweeted joked about going in for the kill implying he should have killed wu when he saw her cause he didn't know she was gonna be there and he said he's gotta hunt down wu now. Obviously it was a joke but he was trying to find wu cause he wanted to take a selfie with her. He did take the selfie too which is kind of funny. He is kind of known for doing stupid shit all the time but in a good way. He's pretty hilarious and known for his shitposting. I know the guy and he's pretty cool. I've skyped with him before so I was pretty pissed when all the sjws were calling him worthless and a despicable human and all kinds of shit. Of course we've all said stupid shit that we regret I mean who hasn't right? He's harmless though. Eventually some sjw nitwits went and pulled tweets of his that were made years ago as evidence that he's this despicable human being. This guy has tweeted over 160,000 times though but they didn't bother reading most of them and only focused on ones they knew would make him look bad. It just pisses me off to no end. Before he deactivated his account he even apologized and said it was stupid what he did but as we all know nothing is ever good enough for an aggro so if his account was still around he'd still be getting shit from them. I'm assuming he'll reactivate his account eventually once the heat has died down or change the name so people don't find him via wu.

The kill thing is a pretty poor bit even before you consider he said it about someone who has received death threats. I'm sure he's a lovely lad and all, but you can't go around joking about killing/hunting people. I can see how people get a certain image of you guys.

Discretion dot dot dot valor.

someone who has received death threats

i.e. "someone on the internet".

i.e. "someone on the internet".

No, I meant what I meant: death threats, plural, that are laced with vitriol and done to induce fear.

Public figures get death threats all the time. Justin Bieber supposedly averages more than one per minute. The difference is that most public figures just ignore them, but you can't drive traffic to your Panhandleon if you do that.

Anyone who fears death threats from adolescent trolls on the Internet needs to grow up.

I think that an actual, physical, letter is something to actual worry about.

Internet threats though, are as important as the paper they're written on.

Maybe. Public figures have been getting hate mail, including threats, since shortly after the first postage stamp was sold. The vast majority of them are impotent bullshit.

Mmh. Good point, but I wouldn't like to take chances with those.

Still, at least they're more noticeable than online teenagers' babbling.

[–]candiedwhiskey 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

Someone like Justin Bieber has the money to pay for security. Regardless, adolescence is no excuse. Nor is being a public figure.

I'm not in the know, as it were, maybe you can fill me in. Has there been any decent amount of pushback within Gamergate against people who make death threats? Do folks who are pro-GG trying to distance themselves from these, hopefully, very few, very vocal, very disturbed/immature/childish individuals?

[–]scornucopia 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

In short, yes: threats of all kinds are uniformly condemned. If anything, pro-GamerGate is more consistent in its condemnation than anti-GamerGate, who think that doxing is OK, they say “no bad tactics, only bad targets”.

Public figures get unpleasant and disagreeable communications of all kinds, including threats. If they publicise them, they get worse, because now the trolls know they can get a reaction. Recognising the reality of this behavior is not the same as condoning it.

If I tweeted a “threat” to Ann Coulter threatening to steal her car (for want of something random) and she re-tweeted it indignantly taking it seriously, what do you think would happen? Do you think the number of tweets threatening car-theft would go up or down? Do you think her getting a large number of car-theft threatening tweets in is evidence of a huge conspiracy of misogynist would-be car thieves?

If you publicise threats, you attract more threats of the same kind because the trolls now know they can get a reaction out of you. This is why public figures, other than professional victims, uniformly and consistently ignore them.

Thing is I don't think he said he was going to kill her. I can't find his tweets now to confirm this cause obviously wu's followers were giving him shit and he's deactivated his account. When he said he was gonna hunt her down he meant so he could take a selfie with her. He's said he retweets stuff he finds funny. He found it funny so he retweeted it. He's getting so much shit for something someone else told him to do. I chuckled a bit at the rt cause it was so ludicrous and stupid and obviously a joke. The rt was basically satirizing what all the aggros portray gamergaters as. You know the whole worse than isis murdering rapist label? If I recall correctly someone else told him to take a selfie with wu.

[–]weepingphantom 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

In fact it was pretty much all satire really. Not just the rt.

and he was kicked out of pax

who the what now?

Anyone got a write-up on this?

Because it's awfully fucked up that Brianna was all about enlisting "people to throw down" on Twitter in order to cause a scene and then something like this happens.
