It's an honor to be featured in /r/subredditoftheday. Thank you for the recognition! I feel like I won an Oscar. Suck it, Clooney!

my rig is underpowered comparatively and a source of shame upon my lineage

It's not the hardware you have, but the software in your heart.

If anyone here has any additional questions, about either the moderation team or computers in general, I'd be more than happy to help.

It's time for, (drumroll please) a mini reddit ama. Are you ready /u/Alien_From_Europa ? Go!

Do you find yourself in a game or in reddit more? Do you guys accept steam friend requests? What's your favorite game? When, if ever, did you have to ban someone because they broke a rule even when you knew it wasn't their fault or something along this lines? Can I download more cpu with my downloaded ram? /s

Edit: those two deleted comments are my phone deciding it will send two identical replays. Sorry.

Do you guys accept steam friend requests?

Up until my friend list is full, I accept everyone.

Fun fact, your reddit name has 21 results in steam so I'm adding a question...

How would one identify the real pedro on steam?

[–]alien_from_Europa 4ポイント5ポイント  (2子コメント)

Do you find yourself in a game or in reddit more?

Reddit, by 10x fold! Any time I have where I have to wait for something, I fill that time on reddit. That means I'm on reddit off & on for ~8 hours a day.

Do you guys accept steam friend requests?

Steam / Twitter / Facebook

What's your favorite game?

Thief: The Dark Project

When, if ever, did you have to ban someone because they broke a rule even when you knew it wasn't their fault or something along this lines?

Rule #1 - harassment is the biggest culprit here. We're very serious about it. When a peasant starts cursing at you, don't curse back. It's an instinctual reaction to do so as a human. But in PCMR, we expect you to be the better person. Facts will always win an argument objectively. Don't bring yourself down to peasantry. To split up the drama, we ban both users. The instigator gets a long or permanent ban and the replier gets a short ban, usually 1-2 days.

Can I download more cpu with my downloaded ram?

Physically, no. However, you can download software that uses it more efficiently. An updated driver usually helps. Saying that, the efficiency is finite. A console will never perform as efficiently overtime as a peasant claims it will. A PC can be physically upgraded. A console cannot.

Don't bring yourself down to peasantry.

"Never argue with a [peasant]. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience."

I think you may have missed the /s on the last question. :)

I was born ready!

  1. Reddit

  2. Yes, until full [Hossdelux]

  3. Assetto Corsa if I had to name one. To name a series, Borderlands. Name a genre, Sim, I love me some FSX, Assetto Corsa, iRacing and PCARS!

  4. I don't presume but, presumably some users have broken the rules [multiple in succession to be banned on first offence] without knowing, we will still issue a temp ban if it's their "first" offence, and explain to them why we gave them such a harsh ruling. If it's not hte first time they have done it, it's not the first time they've had it explained to them so banning is usually a result but in general we won't ban on first offence until it's pretty obvious or apparent that the user needs a temp ban or out right ban.

  5. I know this is a joke but in theory you could download RAM if you had a million dollar 3D printer that can weld metal together. In theory it is possible now. Maybe not a CPU for awhile but maybe a new tech comes out that allows CPUs to be made.

Are you interested in project cars and BeamNG drive? And have you ever played rigs of rods?

I'be played all three well over 200 hours each on their different versions.

Nice, ok here is a really obscure one. Have you ever played Tux Kart? It is a linux thing but you might have heard of it even though it is not technically a simulation of realistic physics.

No, interested though.

So do win then or...

Edit: Annoyed with ducklings. Mission accomplished. We did it, reddit.

Do... Do you think they would accept? Shoot I should try to add /u/Alien_From_Europa and /u/notwitty_username question is if their steam and reddit name is the same...

I'll add my steam url once I get on my desktop. :p it's also in the moderators section of the subs wiki.

A PCMR article with no mention of the banning? Shills and censorship!

At one point we were on purpose not bringing it up because all it was going to do was make us angry. Plus the sub's history isn't really important for Sub of the Day most of the time.

And at another point you weren't bringing it up because you were banned :D

We had about 20 backup subs. It's not like we had nowhere to discuss it.

I know, it was a joke.

I guess I should be able to take a joke about it by now.

Banned because the actions of a few people, not the vast majority of the sub.

Pretty much the exact opposite of what the admins said. Cupcake specifically mentioned that the banning happened because thousands were brigading and insulting in linked threads.

Um well I clearly remember them saying it was a very over all small part of pcmr. The sub probably had around 200 subs... 2k out if 200 isn't that much of a majority at all.

No, cupcake said that it was because of the brigading, which she said was because of thousands of the subreddit.

If a post linked directly to a comment or post in another subreddit, hundreds of /r/pcmasterrace users (that's multiple thousands spread across a few posts) would flood into the linked subreddits, make fun of the users, call them faggot and other similar things, and downvote not only the linked comment but the entire posting history of the users. This was over and over again, it was not just a handful of individuals... there were hundreds of people, different people, doing it at any given time.

That shit does not fly. We approached the moderators about this problem a few months ago and they tried to work with us to prevent that sort of activity from happening again, but even so there was only so much they could do to stop people from doing it. There were mass bannings, stickied posts telling people not to brigade, I personally spoke to hundreds of individual users about that behavior, yet hardly anything changed. That is the main reason the subreddit was banned.

Bolded the relevant parts.

  1. It was ultimately because of doxxing by a few that the mods weren't able to contain.
  2. Thousands is hardly a majority.

What the admin Cupcake had to say about it.

If it was a majority or /r/pcmr then we would've known why we were banned. In reality, the perpetrators that caused the bans cowered in corners while the real users spammed /r/gaming with PC content in retaliation as we assumed it was due to the fact the subreddit mocked an /r/gaming moderator for comments like "PCs are for taxes, consoles are for games", while others took to other subreddits looking for an explanation as to why the subreddit was banned.

Bolded the relevant parts. That's the person who made the ban telling you why the ban happened. I have no idea why people in PCMR keep trying to say otherwise when this is a matter of record.

Do you have a question about it?

Would like to also add that, yes my PC does include a GPU... >_>

Gigabyte HD 7950, couldn't find it in partpicker however.

It is a previledge to be Subreddit of the day. And for a second time, even. Thank you, guys. This is glorious!

We have the same processor + Graphics card! :). What's your screen resolution, though? (I assume you play on one monitor, not both of your monitors for a lot of games.)

It's an honour to be featured on /r/subredditoftheday!

We all very much appreciate this

"Even though my rig is underpowered comparatively and a source of shame."

Eh! We disagree because It's not the hardware you have, but the software in your heart.

Please don't think you are lesser than someone else based on the monetary value of their rig compared to yours. We are the Master Race, we praise the performance to dollar value of the PC platform as a whole.

For those wanting to learn more about what the PC has to offer, check out the regularly updated wiki /r/pcmasterrace/wiki/index

You rig is just nuts...btw...good lord.

Here is more nuts.

With accessories and other electronics I have spend Over $7000 CAD on my main PC but sadly I have only the one GPU in the rig [and the other is a reference model], with my HUGE 36TB NAS paid for by work and Access Point [Ruckus R700] that is north of $15000 CAD including other LAN PCs and parts I have around for when I do my quarterly LAN party with friends so I have collected an amass of stuff now.

Never stops.

Am I missing something? I don't see it.

I DEMAND SATIRICAL AND CRAZY

Yeah, I didn't post it earlier because I was too tired. It needed a bit of work on the end to make it real feature-worthy and the amount of work this one took blew it out of me. I'll post it sometime today.

I thank you for the compliment. I did not see that link last time I read this, but I appreciate the recognition.

PCMR represent! :D

May as well take this time to ask the question to other fellow PCMR users browsing the comments... I'm sure you don't mind, right Xavier?

I have a cheap rig. Bought an HP desktop computer a few years ago with 4GB ram, 750GB HDD, and a shitty Athlon II Quad Core processor. Bought a (600w I believe) power supply for it and a 5650 card. It held up well for a while and was able to pull things like Arkham City on the highest settings, so my budget gaming PC worked out for me. I recently upgraded to a GTX660 and have another 8GB of RAM to add (soon™). In the coming weeks I was considering getting a new processor that fits my mother board, probably a AMD FX-6300 or another 6 core.

Would I be alright doing this to keep up with current gaming, or should I just sit on what I've got for a few months and just build a new computer? While the idea sounds fun, I don't really want to have to do that if I don't have to. Tips? Ideas? Any advice you can offer I haven't mentioned or thought of yet?

Upgrading your processor depends a lot on your motherboard. Even though they share the same socket, some of the newer CPUs (6300, 8350) are incredibly power hungry and don't tend to play nice with budget motherboards (which yours almost certainly is seeing as it's a pre-built). With that in mind I'd recommend you save up a bit more and get a new CPU, motherboard, CPU cooler, and case. A 600W PSU is plenty for single card configurations as long as you're not overlcocking like a madman and you can just toss in your current RAM (if it's DDR3) and graphics card.

It wouldn't be entirely new, but I really don't recommend throwing newer parts in old, budget motherboards and cases, it can introduce firmware and power issues and they're often just not built for it. Depending on your budget I'd recommend saving up until you can get a decent i5, a midrange ($60-$90) motherboard, and a new case.

PS: Praise GabeN!!
