Neither my dad nor I wear helmets on motorcycles. Our argument being if I'm going to get hit I want to make sure I die.

I don't want to risk being kept alive by the helmet only to be paralyzed for the rest of my life. If I can't walk, talk, and wipe my own ass I want to be dead.

That's incredibly dumb.

An accident which would leave you with just a broken arm can now leave you with a broken arm and permanent brain injury.

That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard in my whole life. What about head injuries that will leave you retarded or kill you that would have been completely avoided by using a helmet? Shit this is Darwin level dumb maybe I shouldn't have commented.

I never said it was a GOOD idea. Which is why I tell my kid to wear a helmet. But it's a personal choice where I've decided I'm willing to take the risk.

What, you want to live forever?

[–]dryj [スコア非表示]  (13子コメント)

It turns out that I won't live forever even with a helmet. Now you seem like an even bigger asshole for not taking precautions against leaving your kid without a father.

Good point. Let me go put some slip grip in my shower, stop going to the doctor, and take the bus instead of a car. All those things kill you too.

Your going to die, you could die tomorrow despite everything you do. Stop worrying so much about preventing it and live a little.

You're an idiot. Wearing a helmet does not in any way lessen my life experience. Rambling about slip grip doesn't change that.

You have a kid, this is a significant risk, and it takes nothing to prevent. Think about it.

[–]EWSTW [スコア非表示]  (5子コメント)

I don't personally think it's really a significant risk. Been going strong for 7 years. My dad's been going 40

Nobody fucking cares if you, the special snowflake you are, think there's no risk. There is one.

What great logic. I link something that describes real risk with something you're currently doing, and you basically say "LOOK OVER THERE".

Linking other stuff that can kill you doesn't diminish what we were talking about. Have a good one dude. Good luck not dying.

Those numbers aren't actually that bad. I'm going to tell my wife to stop driving get passenger vehicle

I gotta add - this is real baby cake shit. I've taken dives mountain biking that could have hurt a lot without a helmet. I took a dive that cracked a huge chunk off my helmet one time. Even if that fall wouldn't have killed me, it prevented any injury whatsoever.

Actually my dad wears a helmet mtn biking.

He reasons a fall there should just hurt, not take away your ability to live. So he does wear one.

See, what you're failing to take into account is risk vs. reward.

What is the risk vs. reward of no helmet? Well, the risk is that a normally minor injury (falling on the pavement) can turn into a fatal or debilitating one (severe head injury). The reward is a bit more free-feeling without a helmet and I guess a bit of money savings (assuming you don't have huge medical bills due to lack thereof).

Also you should put a fucking slip grip on your shower, it costs fucking nothing, why not? Gotta make the shower look cool?

Basically if we put risk and reward on scales not wearing a helmet is pretty one sided towards risk.

The old addage "do you want to live forever" is stupid because if we just follow that endlessly into the void then we arrive at not having any acceptable risk mitigation. "Why aren't you wrestling bears? What's the matter, wanna live forever?"

....I've actually been in a fight with a bear.

Always carry bear mace when camping

The crazy thing is that his original comment justifies not wearing the helmet to reduce the risk of being paralyzed. He's not accounting at all for the fact that an accident that would leave him relatively unscathed with a helmet could leave him paralyzed without one. He does take risk and reward into account...he's just not very bright.

[–]Swingmerightround [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

Yeah, why would you want to wear a helmet? What, you want to be around to see your kid grow up and maybe know your grandkids? Pffft fuck that, you're being way too cool and badass by not wearing a helmet. Grow up you tool.

Seriously, you're one of the dumbest people I've ever come across online.

[–]EWSTW [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

See with my luck thou I'd wear a helmet so I can live a long life then die from a medical mistake next week
