Craig can't demonstrate for sure that he is Satoshi because then there is no place left for faith. What's a religion without faith? Instead he will perform miracles like "confusing Gavin" or "convincing the Economist to talk to him". This way only the true believers will have enough faith to recognize the one-true Satoshi.
