Best thing to do is report him for drug use. If cops find drugs in his part of the home, he'll lose the gun at the very least.

They're two different concepts of fair, and both are equally valid. As you pointed out, this one is more or less designed to reconcile two different incomes living in the same home. I mean, the alternative is to ask your SO to pay above their means, or to accept a living situation below what you'd prefer, or to only date people similar income and values, and hope nothing ever changes. None of the options are perfect, but income based payments (in my opinion) have the least drawbacks.

He makes less than I do, and sounds like he spends at least twice as much. And I'm not exactly thrifty. You're right, there's something not right here. Does he have an alternative income stream? Does he have any savings/retirement? I don't see how he could. A trust fund from wealthy parents?

Either way, the real (well, second) problem is that he's being secretive and condescending towards your valid concerns. I don't know what sort of advice you're looking for, but yeah, I'd say you're right to be worried.
