I've heard of variations of ban bots for a little while now, and while they interested me a little for the automation. I prefer to give individuals the opportunity to prove preconceptions many have about groups they associate with wrong.
Over the years we've been targeted by many different subreddits. We try to come up with ways to address this, usually on an individual basis. Due to one of them searching for when they are mentioned in other subreddits, we don't allow the subreddits name to be mentioned or automoderator removes your comment.
For the most part there are a dozen or so subreddits out there that people who are generally disrespectful, trying to be edgy, or jerks seem to flock to. The majority of the people who subscribe to these places can't act civilly here, so we use that as a reference point when dealing with them. Though there have been a handful of people who have proved me wrong over the years, enough that I wouldn't use a ban bot on them for the opportunity to change minds.
Which brings us to today, if you have posted or commented on the subreddit
/r/cringeanarchy, or the network of white rights subreddits, you will automatically be banned.
There are a few reasons why we've taken this step.
Every time we are posted about to that subreddit, or an image is taken from here from one of our OPs and crossposted to there, we have an influx of immature people come here to cause issues for us the mods, for the community, or for the submitters themselves. It's quite easy to tell because they've never commented here before, and always have a posting history to there. Comments with the type of language used in their subreddit gets a bunch of upvotes quickly, and the OP, people supporting the OP, or the mods here get quickly downvoted.
The mods there don't seem to care all that much, and allow minors to be posted. If they encourage shitty attitudes in the community, and are lazy to enforce their own rules or the rules of reddit, then surely such a community can and is used to bully and harass others. We have always had the most stringent rules on personal information on any subreddit, which is part of why we can't be used that way.
Not a single person from that subreddit coming to here has been respectful. They've never gone through our rules, or if they have been warned act like babies. It's quite apparent that they don't like us, which we're totally fine with. It's the fact that they're so self important they have to come here to let us know how they feel just to get a little bit of attention.
I'm sure there may be a few people who subscribe there who might have the capacity to be mature and civil, unfortunately the rest of the types of people there ruin it for the few of you who can be respectful.
We don't really care what subreddits you post in or comment in, if they are diametrically opposed and you like both go for it. All we've ever asked is that you keep the type of language to groups we don't align with to their respective places and respect out rules.
As for the white rights subs, I've never had a redeeming person come here from those subreddits. Many of the subreddits which are quarantined previously caused us problems, and also hung out in these areas.
TL;DR
If you have posted or commented on the subreddit
/r/cringeanarchy, or the network of white rights subreddits, you will automatically be banned. It probably won't affect many of you. If you like this subreddit and are banned due to this, you will need another account to participate here. If you don't like this subreddit and are banned, then it works out for both of us!
