[unpopular opinion] Rojo vs Leciester (self.reddevils)

Rojo has been slated for the goal and his performance today in general. He was no where near good enough marking Wes on the set plays; but he was a bully for Mahrez and kept him out of the game for long stretches. Most of the opinion on this sub is he was shite, but I upon watching the match again he wasn't as terrible as everyone has made it out. IMO I don't believe Darmian or CBJ would have kept him in check as well as Rojo did. Always important to look on the bright side. Downvote away chaps ;)

He really did keep Mahrez in check. Rojo is a great squad player and I hope he stays next season when I am sure he will do much better.

I agree, Rojo wasn't as bad as everyone made him out to be and CBJ or Darmian wouldve still had problems down the left flank. Mahrez was quiet the whole game and Rojo did well to support the attack. With our problematic position of fullbacks this year I'd say hes performed better than most who were given chances to play at LB

I'd say it was LvG who should have put someone else on Morgan.. But tbh, even Smalling and Fellaini would have problems against him. The guy is a beast.

Smalling did an amazing job on Huth though, made him completely ineffective in the box.

Agreed, I dont know who else we could have used to mark Morgan, but no one was beating him to that ball for the goal.

It illustrates our lack of height and strength in certain parts of the pitch. It isn't as bad as last season, but needs some improving. I wouldn't have minded seeing TFM for Fellaini in the middle. We lost the height and strength after plan B was subbed off and our crosses into the box were far less cutting.

Right idea but TFM just isn't proven enough at a senior level to take that risk in such an important game IMO

Fellaini presumably has the necessary strength.

What he was doing in the wall is beyond me, that has to go down as an error. De Gea should have told him to get out of the wall when he was organising it, complete waste of one of the few players we have capable of going up against those big Leicester target men.

To be honest I am surprised when any of our players head the ball away from a cross. There were about 8 times today where a Leicester player got to the ball first. I think it has been a problem all season for us, not just Rojo today

I don't get why Rojo isn't played CB and Blind LB. Way better suited that way.

Last season Rojo had a few pretty good games there actually. He was awful against West Ham away but generally he did ok there

Rojo's the next big scapegoat even though he really doesn't deserve it. For most of his time here he's been a decent squad player. Only been poor since coming back from his most recent injury.

I think the reason why Rojo did so well to keep Mahrez in check because he's a natural CB. He's never been great as a LB for us (even for Argentina) with the exception of his crossing. I really would like to see him playing CB next season, partnering Smalling!

Edit: Apparently, he's not been that bad for Argentina. I haven't seen too much I suppose. Still hope he's our CB next season with Shaw/Blind at LB!

Rojo did OK with Mahrez for the most part but he got pretty fortunate with the penalty. Yeah Mahrez made a show of it but he'd already beaten Rojo and another ref might have given.

People always give Rojo shit because he is argentine. I've had this argument before on this sub. United supporters generally give Argentines the most shit out of everyone.

He put 3 or 4 good crosses in today and in general his link up play is decent. He is good at disguising passes to the wing that go infield to Rashford etc. I think he does well seeing as it is not a natural position to him.

To be fair, there were plenty of times where he was making runs down the flank and I was screaming at Martial to make an overlapping run, which never came.
