Wayne Rooney: Man Utd’s top four hopes practically over but we deserved to beat Leicester

MANCHESTER UNITED captain Wayne Rooney believes his side deserved to take all three points from Leicester.

Wayne Rooney says Manchester United deserved to beat Leicester

The Foxes’ title celebrations were put on hold as they were forced to cling on with 10 men for a 1-1 draw at Manchester United.

Claudio Ranieri’s side responded to Anthony Martial's early strike at Old Trafford through skipper Wes Morgan but it was not enough to complete the unlikeliest of title successes.

They were left living on their nerves in the closing minutes after Danny Drinkwater was sent off for a second bookable offence when he brought down Memphis Depay just outside the area.

And now Rooney has doubts over United’s hopes of a top-four finish after failing to convert their chances, with his side sat four points behind Manchester City with just three games to go.

Louis van Gaal's side put Claudio Ranieri's title dream on hold

"We were the better team and deserved to win in my opinion. [Top four] is going to be difficult now, we're relying on other teams and we're going to have to take maximum points from our remaining games.

"Leicester have made it tough for teams all season but I felt we had the better chances. We're disappointed we didn't win the game, it's a blow, but we have to keep going."
