Lingard should practise his finishing as I have 0% faith in him putting away chances, he misses many.

what people forget is the only reason he misses so many is because he makes scoring chances.

either by making clever runs, impeccable support play or good positioning.

he generates much more of these chances than the other players despite being the most technically limited

not to mention he also generates an arseload of chances for other people with the constantly dangerous through balls and crosses

.

frankly, it's frustrating he misses shots but he's not a welbeck situation. welbeck missed most chances but wasn't as dangerous. lingard misses lots becUSE HE'S DANGEROUS.

welbeck learns to finish he's still just a 15 goal/season player.

lingard if he learned to finish could be muller.

it's why i have much more time for him

for all of mata's hype and reputation i saw lingard play more through balls of a higher quality in one match against everton than i've seen mata play during the entirety of 2016

Lingard is basically Welbeck 2.0. He has a high workrate, he's quick, can create chances but his finishing really needs some work.

He'd make a solid squad player, since he can play anywhere in the front three behind a striker.

He runs but lacks end product. Players like Oscar and Willian are two top players with great technical ability and in the past I think many people have often undermined their ability simply passing them off as workhorses. I don't think that's fair at all, both are two very technically gifted players that I'm sure would have started even if they covered half as much ground as they typically do. And for what it's worth, Mou tried his luck getting Isco last summer to replace Oscar, a player who works considerably less but also was thought to be the solution to the inconsistent Oscar (many suggested he was overworked, always got international matches in summer also).

I'm sure Mourinho would appreciate the workrate offered by Lingard but I think you'll find most players are willing to offer a similar shift, I don't think Lingard is particularly special in that regard (definitely one of his strong points but nothing out of the ordinary). I seriously doubt Lingard will be anywhere near the first team next season under Mou. He is a talented player that I'm sure would start regularly at a 10th placed side, not Manchester United. He is turning 24 this year, if he hasn't already hit his ceiling, I imagine he is fairly close, unfortunately nowhere near the quality we need to be challenging Europe's elite.
