I have been thinking about this recently, as have many of you I am sure - our right-wing conundrum. Obviously it's likely we will sign a top-class player for that position, but in any case I suspect that Mourinho would would appreciate lingard there for all his off the ball contribution. Does he not have qualities that Oscar has, or Willian, in terms of both pressing and defensive contribution? Obviously he is not as physically strong as Willian, but covers a lot of ground and is willing to put in a shift in the way Mourinho likes (to an extent Mata plea could not given his physical limitations). Furthermore, I think Lingard is excellent as a link up player. He may not be decisive or technically excellent but he clearly improves the play of everyone around him in the attacking third with his movement, touches, one-twos, and even key passes. From my observation he is actually the glue between Martial and Rashford in the way that is intelligent movement positioning and combination play, allied with his ability to cover a lot of ground in the final third and show up in various spaces across the front line, seems to connect dots and cover gaps in an underrared and almost in tangible footballing quality. Now, my intention with this post is not to big Lingard up, as we all know his obvious limitations, simply to prompt discussion on the topic and add articulation to the quality he does actually bring. Thanks, and looking forward to replies.
