Your edited title misses one of the biggest points of the article. The FBI doesn't need to know where the target computer is, therefore it doesn't even have to be in the US.

Wood thinks that the internet is already spurring innovation in the cable industry, it would increase costs for consumers, and tech giants would just use this as another way to expand their reach.

None of these seem both true and relevant.

1) Already innovation? Why put on the brakes?

2) Cable companies will still rent boxes. Consumers just get more choice and so it should drive down what is currently monopoly pricing.

3) Tech giants instead of cable giants will expand their reach. Why should I care ?

Not upset, don't really care. I just took exception the the broad generalization that blocking cars is always criminal. I can see that I was attributed all sorts of other meaning by many readers. Because I am confusing the issue, rather than adding to it, I am removing my comment.
