TL;DR: Fans of a football club is having a civil war over their manager on the internet and real world.
Background:
Arsenal FC is a Football Club in the EPL with it's fans subreddit being r/gunners. Arsenal has been led by it's manager Arsene Wenger for 2 decades. Arsenal achieved glorious success in the early part of Wenger's tenure but then due to stadium building commitments had to scrape by for this middle part of Wenger's tenure. Scraping by though was not that bad as Arsenal have consistently achieved a Champions League (Europe's elite football competition) placement (at least 4th place in the league) and have thumped their very close rivals Spurs (always have finished above them) since the start of Wenger's tenure. Also during that time Arsenal was bought by a very hands off owner in Stan Kroenke, infamous in US sports and more and more in the UK. He has been running Arsenal in the background with Wenger having complete control over all footballing matters ("If he has a plan, we back him. If he doesn’t have a plan, we keep quiet" -- C. Keswick, Arsenal Chairman).
The conflict:
As the debt continues to get smaller and revenue increases (from increased TV deals) Arsenal consistently kept chugging along with it's highest prices in world football and the 4th place finishes. With this increase resources but stagnating results in the late 2000s more and more Arsenal fans came to question Wenger's job (this being the WOBs, Wenger Out Brigade) which themselves were challenged (maybe more like actively ignored) by the much larger majority of the AKBs (Arsene Knows Best, a slogan from the beginning of his tenure).
However, though Arsenal recently tasted some success in the local cup competitions (2 FA Cups 2 years in a row) more and more people started to join the WOBs as belief in Wenger's ability to adapt and challenge for the more prestigious competitions (the League and CL) shrinks (through massive disappointments in matches or repeated mistakes), but there was still a lot more AKBs content with Wenger.
This year, however, was the straw that broke the camel's back. With an underdog, Leicester City, looking to win the League (while every other big team has collapsed and will be changing managers) and Spurs looking to place higher than Arsenal for the first time in decades, Arsenal's choking has come under more scrutiny. With older mental collapse moments and last summer's glaring mistake in the transfer window (and most other transfer windows) as their ammo, WOBs has increased enough nowadays to really change the mood from contentment to despair over the decision to keep or oust Wenger.
This increase in members also brought out different sections in both groups. Both WOBs and AKBs now have section that wants Wenger to finish out his contract and leave, WOBs have a larger group that believe that Wenger needs to go this summer and a smaller more vicious group that believe Wenger should be sacked now and should've been sacked long ago (this group is actually the progenitor and the ones who actually came up with AKBs). The AKBs now also have a large section that can't be arsed and try to ignore Arsenal news or downvote everything (just check /r/gunners new section) as WOBs dominate the internet discussion and a not insignificant section that really hates the WOBs and actively engage them.
Also with how bad Arsenal has been playing WOBs are sort of in control of /r/gunners nowadays, with the opposite being true during good runs, for example is this thread. If Arsenal is not in this rut all of the comment votes would be the exact opposite (though the submission votes shows AKBs size compared to the WOBs). In this fractured world you can even identify the user's allegiance based on their submission title.
The biggest difference between this drama and most other drama is that this is actually happening in the real world. Punches have been thrown between fans of the same club and 3, quite large, supporter groups have decided to protest during the game tomorrow against Norwich (first time at home during the game). And just today Wenger have stated some very unpopular things during the press conference that a lot of people took as attacking the fans (however true or false that may be) and drove more people into the WOBs while entrenching the AKBs even more. This drama bled from the real world to reddit, not the usual other way around, and this time almost none of the participants of this drama can detach because of their love for Arsenal (people have left and come back, Claude (a WOB on ArsenalFanTV) had suicidal thoughts because his depression came back, etc. and this has been going on for years).
Now with 4th place actually in risk and the end of the season still to come, the climax of this drama is still coming.
P.S. The drama is a lot more complex than this actually as I've not even touched on Kroenke, the Board, the injuries, the transfer windows, the progression in CL, the invincible season, etc.
