I really hate that attitude. I mean, yeah, that's the way it is, but, unlike animals in the wild, we can choose for it to not be like that. We don't have to be stuck with it being that way...

His reply to my family member's choice was, "She made that choice for herself."

YES, SHE MADE THAT CHOICE FOR HERSELF. I do not criticize for that decision but does he not see the incredible difficulty she was faced with? And why make the choice to perpetuate this? It's all a choice, but he didn't seem to care for me or my lot.

This is the new reality of the Democratic party. It's neoliberalism dragging the party to the middle butting up against Centrist Republicans. It's exactly why I'm ditching the party once I vote in my state's primary.

It's better if we take it over with progressives.

I'll never lose hope for Bernie and the movement but I've lost all hope in ever redeeming the Democratic party. Unfortunately it is corrupt from top to bottom.

I think a change from within is in order rather than abandoning it.

I feel for you and hope your situation improves. I have made calls and canvassed and love how you call even though with your situation, you could just sit around and feel sorry for yourself. Keep calling for you will get wonderful stories that will warm your heart. Good luck and thanks so much!

I don't share this story so people will feel sorry for my situation, although I certainly appreciate your well wishes!

I only share this story so people can see what kind of indignant attitudes we're working against. I almost scoffed out loud when he said he was worried about his $12,000,000 inheritance--he almost sounded excited about the impending death of his parents. We can NOT give up now!

THANK YOU so much for everything you're doing. We're in this together :)

We are all Brothers & Sisters as Bernie and Cornel West says.

Brother Bernie is the only way I refer to him when talking about the campaign. Love Dr. West!

I bought his book The Radical King, but have been so busy calling and canvassing and other Bernie projects that I have not been able to read it! I bought it especially for the letter that MLK wrote in the Birmingham jail. I am collecting books for my grand daughter who is of mixed white and black race. She is 10 now but I am sure she will be so very grateful later on.

Great to hear! Dr. West is a fantastic writer and such an inspirational speaker. I haven't read The Radical King yet but it's certainly on my list.

He probably doesn't know that he's being taken advantage of by the uber rich. IMO anyone who answers their own phones are not rich enough to not be taken advantage of. The economy grows when more people buys shit. Velocity of money and what not, tell him the real life Gordon Gecko (who I think better understands the economy than this guy) said Bernie's the best for the economy.

In his ideological world, the purge would be a standard every day affair. If you're rich enough to afford protection, you live, or else you die. If I were to be on the phone with someone like this, I'd tell them to move to a slave state.

Re: estate tax, Bernie wants to move the limit down from 5.4m to 3.5m. First of all, even if you're getting 1m in estate, that will feed and shelter a normal person for pretty much the remainder of his/her life. Second, these estate taxes prevent a family from being rich indefinitely (or until one generation fucks up). Even if you do nothing with a large enough estate, and simply put it into an index fund and only spend part of the interest/dividends as a living allowance, that money will still grow dramatically over time. (Trump's $200m would be $20bn if he just left it in an index fund over 30 yrs, Einstein: 'The most powerful force in the universe is compound interest' ). This money will allow a single family to gentrify and create a "Rothschild's" situation as in GB. It would also be better spent growing the country's economy.

If I could call him back...

I was so shocked at what he had just said that I couldn't form a decent argument beyond what my own experience had been.

Your own experience is the best argument. The easiest way to change someone's mind is through the heart. Most people don't think from a logical place but an emotional one.
