You know that "cunt" is an insult. Why is it an insult? What is it you're calling the other person when you use it?

It's like calling someone a dick. You are comparing them to genitals.

But when you call a man a cunt, the insult is that he's acting like a woman, because acting like a woman is insulting. Misogyny.

I got into a really shitty argument about the useage of this term on srsdiscussion a while back so dont really want to retread old ground here, but the useage and connotations of the word are HUGELY different in English speaking countries outside the US.

But when you call a man a cunt, the insult is that he's acting like a woman, because acting like a woman is insulting. Misogyny.

Not in the UK and Aus at all. It is literally just the 'strongest word'. Why? There must be a long and complex cultural history behind that, but it's meaning in this context is long detached from it's reference.

Please, the rest of the world is not America. I wont use the word on US based sites like this, but I wont have my own languaged policed based on different cultural references.

Further example, in Finland the word 'vittu' basically means the same, and is used as a general expression of annoyance much in the same way 'fuck' is in english speaking countries, by men and women equally. Should an American tell them to stop?

If I call a man a dick am I saying that he is acting like a man which is an insult? When I call someone a cunt I am saying they are acting like a cunt, it is interchangeable with shit or dick. Maybe in America it is a gendered insult, but in my experience it is no more a gendered insult than dick is.

You know that insult doesn't mean "acting like a man". In fact, there pretty much IS no one-word insult that means "acting like a man", because that's the way slurs work. Acting like a man is seen as a GOOD thing.

You know it seems kind of hypocritical to complain about American centrism when your entire argument is you shouldn't adapt to the world because it's just how your culture is.

I'm calling you selfish and privileged then.

[–]Red_River_Sam 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

Why is using male genitals as an insult okay but female genitals as an insult not okay?

[–]AngryDM 6ポイント7ポイント  (0子コメント)

Did I say the first was okay to begin with, necessarily?

Second, like most privileged people from a comfortable upbringing, you're assuming that men and women have it so equal that the slang is also equal in usage and intent.
