It was raining all day today, so all she wants is to come in and take a nap at a dry place.

Unfortunately I had to go to work, so she has since been forcibly relocated to on top of Mt. Washing Machine.

Have any weekend plans?

Thanks to our linux servers being shut down for maintenance and upgrades for 2 days I'll be unable to work this weekend, which I'm really torn up about - I'll be going on a really long hike both days which should be really nice!

Well, you appeared on my frontpage again reminding me this place exists, and while I sorely missed the entertaining and informative beat-downs on here, I again feel kind of inadequate because I'll probably never be able to write as in-depth posts as I regularly find on here (and AskHistorians.)

You're tearing me apart /r/badhistory!

It's okay! You're welcome to toss something together as well! I promise, not everything is super-duper hard to research!

Maybe if I'll come across something interesting and am in the right mood.

As an aside, I really like the Wondering Wednesday threads, are they a regular feature now?

[–]Quouarthe Weather History Slayer 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yup! It turns out we like chatting with each other, so let's chat more!

A meme from /r/european (yeah, I know, not that I expected anything from them), because apperently colonialism, slavery, and genocide of Native Americans never happend.

[–]Quouarthe Weather History Slayer 2ポイント3ポイント  (2子コメント)

This is unrelated, but also related. A person from /r/european randomly messaged me asking me to translate something for him. I don't know how to feel about this.

You have the chance to aid in the dissemination of knowledge, but also knowing that said knowledge may well be distorted and used in the cause of evil. A difficult choice indeed.

It is truly the most difficult of dilemmas. The nice person in me says that it's good to help people. The realistic person says that nothing but bad things can come of it.

Even in a modern context, basic everyday groupthink and racism will mean that there are probably lots of neighbourhoods around the world where statements like this were said. I'd be highly surprised if there wasn't, especially considering arrival of whites may spawn massive gentrification in some neighbourhoods - that doesn't usually go over too well with the residents there.

Agreed. /r/european thinks that white people are somehow 'sacred'.

My weekend is essentially going to be me panicking, trying to write a paper on the role of small businesses in economic development, and procrastinating. Two of those things are fun. Two of those things also hinder progress on the third thing.

My weekend is essentially going to be me panicking

Well, mine will probably be filled with a lot of exhaustion and subtle paranoia. Wanna trade?

Lost 10 pounds in 1 month! hopefully going to keep this trend! Losing weight sucks, Its like telling a meth addict to not cut cold turkey, but just you know, take a bit 'less'. Its annoying but I'm happy with the progress.

[–]Quouarthe Weather History Slayer 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Well done!

[–]WxnzxnBut Nazis liberated eastern Europe! (From its population) 1ポイント2ポイント  (2子コメント)

Congratulations on your progress so far!

As long as whatever is working currently is becoming a habit, this will get easier and easier. Be careful however to not revert to old habits after the weight loss. Happened to me, gained all the weight back. Although "old habits" was resurgence of clinical depression, so that was a rather extreme case. Am doing a lot better and losing weight again, though.

Thanks! I just have to stay away from France apparently.

Currently reading Priestland's Red Flag and a History of Fascism by Payne. I've also been templorarily banned from r/socialism for criticising the stalinists and maoists. I just can't resist poking fun at revolutionary LARPers. Speaking of the revolution, this is a huge party weekend for students here in Finland. I have an inhuman amount of alcohol ready for the festivities. It's going to be a fun weekend but I'm not looking forward to Mondays hangover.

Marx, Maria and Josef - have the tankies become that strong over there by now? I'm barely active there, but in my mind it still kind of is this place that is, you know, NOT /r/communism.

[–]halpimdog 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

You can smell the tank exhaust in there. To be fair I did make a cheap comment about Leninism but I feel like being purged was a bit heavy handed response. I don't know why I even bother frequenting. it's terrible and I just get mad at all the naivety and badhistory. It's like a bad parody of a leftist forum.

[–]amillionfreemenmoreshouting the battle cry of freedom! 2ポイント3ポイント  (6子コメント)

I've just looked at the /r/badhistory unbanning policy. Essentially, it says that banned people can be unbanned if they write a good essay (Sources! Evidence! Chicago citations!) explaining their position.

It got me thinking:

  1. Has anyone ever tried to use that rule to get unbanned?

  2. Has anyone ever been unbanned by writing an essay?

  3. Has anyone ever took a ridiculous badhistory position on purpose, got banned, then got unbanned by writing an essay defending "their position", while in reality the person just wanted to write an essay defending a ridiculous position for laughs? Asking for a friend. Yeah. Totally. Not gonna do that.

  4. Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

[–]Spartacus_the_trollJupiter was a planet. 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

arminius_saw banned me last year, but it was only for a day, so no essay writing time. I need to find a rule to break.

[–]Quouarthe Weather History Slayer 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

That Arminius, so mean all the time.

[–]Quouarthe Weather History Slayer[M] 2ポイント3ポイント  (3子コメント)

To my knowledge, no.

...sorry to ruin the fun.

[–]amillionfreemenmoreshouting the battle cry of freedom! 5ポイント6ポイント  (2子コメント)

I can always be the first!

Hmm, what badhistory position should I take...

Nothing dealing with WWII or the US Civil War. God knows wehraboos, tankies, and "The South Shall Rise Again!" are too serious and bigoted to be funny.

Nothing too played out. "muh european dark ages" and "jesus no real" is obviously out, then.

In that case, let's throw out the Mad Libs! Actually nah, it's already been done.

Hmm... Oh, I got it!

All technological advancements since 500 BC were actually invented by geniuses in a hidden city in Greenland and then disseminated little by little throughout the world for two thousand years!

P.S.: Those are spoilers for a certain SBNation story. If you're reading an SBNation story right now, do not click on this link as that would spoil the story.

Look, you may be new here, but Greenland City is where many top minds collaborate, and routinely outsmart the most well funded, well equipped and diabolical universities on earth. How do we do it? Top thinkers, experts on every field, unparalleled investigative skills and fearlessness. I would trust a top inventor there over pretty much any academics, especially a mainstream academic, any day.
