What perspective? Fuck sake these shitposts are put up every time we win a few games. Look at the team Fergie inherited and the team LVG did. We hadn't won the league in 20 fucking years when Fergie took over, the expectation was much, much lower. We weren't anywhere near as big then as we were now. Fuck me

I don't see how it's different considering both managers had to completely replace almost an entire team. What does it matter what LvG had if all he could really keep was Smalling, Rooney, Mata, De Gea and some squad players....

LVG had to replace some players who weren't good enough, Fergie had to get rid of a culture of alcoholism. It's a different universe.

So basically Fergie had to change a very prevalent culture @ United. Something similar to what LVG had to do - change a footballing culture.

I am pretty indifferent now to who comes in and who doesn't at United, but it would be wrong to dismiss the massive rebuilding job that LVG had to undertake. In fact, his job is tougher BECAUSE we're such a big club, massive media scrutiny and fans having more of an influence/voice because of Social media.

LVG changed Moyes training methods and play-style, which basically every new manager does. But United players are professionals and respect his methods. Fergie had to do all that and deal with a group of players who regularly went on midweek benders. It was also the 1980s so the pool of players was a lot smaller so it's not as if he could easily buy replacements (buying from abroad was not nearly as commonplace.) So, really they are incomparable.

I don't agree that they're completely incomparable. The sheer inertia of Fergie's reign is impossible to ignore, let alone overcome.

As much as I love Rooney, that man played under Fergie for most of his career, had his tactics and playing style ingrained in him - same with Carrick and, to some extent, Smalling, Jones and Valencia. That's why LVG had to clear most of the folks from the team. They were 'deadwood' not because they were bad players, but because LVG must have felt that they either weren't suited to the new style or wouldn't really adapt to it.

During Moyes' time, EVERYTHING he did, the players compared to their time under Fergie and that resulted in quite some dissent in the dressing room - maybe that's why he wasn't successful. LVG brought a similar iron-fisted approach to management and told the players to adapt and change, else they'll be booted off.

I agree that they were different times and different problems, but I am just saying that you can draw a parallel between the scope of problems and the work required to overcome them

They took over teams in completely different positions, that's a silly comparison.

fergie have 250m to do it?

[–]the_trainmanRooney 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I think we need to stop the 250M arguement. It is all fair that the supporters of other clubs and media keep bringing that number but we know for a fact that the 250M number is a farce. We're not counting player sales and also, 100M is consisted of only two players - one of whom was sold and the other, Martial, is arguably the reason why we're still fighting for the FA cup and a CL place.
