Manchester United are planning to head into the 2016/17 campaign with Louis van Gaal in charge of the club despite links with Jose Mourinho, according to Sky Sports News presenter, Hayley McQueen.
The Red Devils have been aligned with a stunning move to lure ‘The Special One’ back to Premier League football following his Chelsea exit back in December for some time, with reports even suggesting that a agreement has been reached between the tactician and the North West giants.
However, LVG has seen an upturn in results in recent months, which was capped by the club’s progression to the FA Cup Final last weekend, while qualification for the Champions League is not yet out of the question.
And speaking to FootballFanCast.com McQueen has revealed that it’s her understanding that Van Gaal will be at Man United next season, and that he’s even had a big say in their pre-season plans ahead of the summer:
“If some of the papers are to be believed this deal with Jose Mourinho is already done and dusted.” The Football Foundation Ambassador said at the launch of a new 3G pitch at Woodhouse College in Finchley, North London.
“I worked at the end of the season awards actually and having good relationships with people at the club, my understanding is that they’re all set for Van Gaal to take charge of the team next season. He’s even had a massive hand in the pre-season.
“Ed Woodward and the guys sat down and mapped out the whole pre-season plan – where they would train, where they would travel to – and Louis van Gaal has come in and actually changed a lot of what they’re doing and planning. So obviously they have him in mind.
“He has a very good relationship with Ed Woodward and I think that’s why he’s been in the job as long as he has.
“I think he is fairly confident himself of winning the FA Cup and of his own future.”
Keeping Van Gaal would be a decision that would likely divide the Old Trafford fan base, with many having grown frustrated with his regimented tactics and underwhelming results.
Hayley McQueen was speaking at the launch of Woodhouse College in Finchley, North London’s new 3G pitch, her first event as a Football Foundation Ambassador. The project was made possible thanks to a £220,554 grant from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund, which is delivered by the Football Foundation on behalf of its Funding Partners: the Premier League, The FA and the Government, via Sport England.
