Managers to one side, and with regard to the squad we have and our recent burst of youth-team players coming through. It got me wondering how this would develop over the 2 seasons.
Starting Attackers: Depay / Martial / Rashford
Starting Midfield: Rooney / Schneiderlin / Herrera
Starting Defenders: Shaw / Smalling / Jones / Darmian
GK: DDG
Now we have more mature players like Mata, Fellaini, Bastian, Valenia, Young and Carrick who are all already past their best (maybe not Fellaini and Mata - but anyway).
The above eleven all individually have room to improve. Even Rooney if he plays in the "Scholes" role can re-invent himself.
Memphis Depay is included because despite an underwhelming first season - there is a player there, he just needs games and patience.
The reason I posted this is because that 11 is how I would want us set up going forward, and although that's not a title winning team as it sits now - if it remains injury free and those players continue to improve - could it not be in 2 years time?
Even players like Schneiderlin, Smalling, Herrera and Darmian who aren't as young as the rest can still improve. I don't believe any of them are at their peak yet. Shaw, Martial, and Rashford are all at the beginning of their careers and are already much more than prospects.
This is just me thinking about starting 11s, I know squads win titles, not teams - but even still. I do think that's a good 11 and it can grow as a team as much as the individual parts can.
If everybody hates this post then apologies, it's just a bit of fun and more of a musing than anything else. No need to freak out.
