I honestly think Martial is the greatest youth talent in the world

We might have the 2 best U21 players in the world in Martial and Shaw! Imagine them storming down the left flank next season

I noticed how good Martial was doing setting up Rojo for overlaps today, so I truly cannot wait to see what happens when Shaw comes back.

Normally I'd say hold your horses mate, but fuck it! Best young talent alive! CAMMONNN UNITED!!

Fellaini was brilliant in link up play in the first half. A huge amount of attacking plays went through him on the edge of their box.

Only took Van Gaal two years to realise that's what he's good at!

We all been saying Fellaini is better in the box, just needed to ensure that we don't play hoof ball. Why can't the players show more of this urgency in BPL?

that tackle he made against lukaku was a thing of beauty

Yep, our midfield front two of Fellaini and Rooney were real warriors today

[–]Pedantic_PatFan Favourite David De Gea 19

Seriously: Fuck that ref.

Super seriously: Great going forward but we played our worst football at 1-0 up

Does anyone else think he wasnt that bad? Yeah both penalty shouts went ultimately wrong but you can see why the TFM was given and the handball could only be see from the behind the angle camera.

Hate to say it, we looked so much more potent without Mata. The zip of the pass around the final third was so much more noticeable. I do like Lingard, I think he's got to get the finishing sorted out, he could easily get 10 a season if he did.

De Gea has to be considered World Number 1 at the moment. The guy is just incredible. Penalty was harsh on TFM, hope he doesn't let his head drop because of it.

Finally, Fellaini was the Man of the Match for me. I usually rail on the guy, but he was another class today.

That's what my problem with Lingard is he just ruins way too many chances I don't think him or Welbeck will ever have that composure that Martial has

[–]the_trainmanRooney 1ポイント2ポイント  (2子コメント)

Some people, like Martial, are born with it, others work hard on it, like Ronaldo. Lingard can work on it for sure - he is intelligent and creative, makes good runs and absolutely needs to work on the final product.

I do think Lingard has a very high upside, not world class potential, but he can have a long career as a reliable winger/attacker who isn't too flashy but gets the job done.

Lingard is 23 Welbeck was 25 when he left and he still can't finish

[–]the_trainmanRooney 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I don't agree that Welbeck 'can't finish' - he probably needs more chances than most. His decision-making can be suspect but he is a decent finisher.

Remember Welbeck didn't play many games as a striker - so his training drills were probably more focused on other aspects of his position (LW/RW)

Brilliant cameo from Herrera.

Tactical foul on Barkley to stop another one of their dangerous counter attacks and sets up Martial for the goal.

I was cursing the sub to bring Herrera on and take Fallani off should of been Carrick as he looked bate out and was getting over run in midfield in the last 30 mins

We outplayed them first half, they outplayed us second half. In the end their striker choked and ours was clinical which was the difference today. 3 passes in the end and Everton hearts were like broken glass haha.

The way we completely fall asleep after we score is something that needs to be addressed, or we will make the FA cup final difficult for ourselves when it doesn't have to be.

[–]the_trainmanRooney 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

I think that while they were pressing us hard at the beginning of the second half, we actually weren't too threatened. We started playing very badly once Martial was hobbling due to Besic's flailing leg- I think the commentator also mentioned it. We were down to 10 men and that's when Everton attacked us at will.

In the last 15 or so mins, once Martial was back running, we started playing much better, albeit susceptible to counter attacks.

[–]MrD3athRyan Fucking Giggs 8

If Lingard could finish, he'd have gotten a hat-trick today. Does everything well, except putting the ball into the net.

I like how we have switched the formation, and started playing with just one defensive midfielder, instead of two since last game. It has lead to more shots on goals, and with time, I believe we will start scoring loads of goals. The game today, I thought we were in total control in the first half. Second half, I think once Rooney got yellow carded, we lost the bite in midfield and Everton swamped us.

Funny that we were playing like that most of last season, and then LVG suddenly changed to 4-2-3-1 at the beginning of this season.

I posted this as a separate text-post just before but the mods deleted it. I just want others opinions on this and since this is a serious thread I may as well post it here and see what you guys think.

LVG should leave United at the end of this season ONLY if he insists on retiring at the end of his 3 year contract with us. That's my problem with him. Yes, we've had some terrible games this season. Yes, we may lose our place in Champion's League and Europe next season. Yes, we don't score as many goals as we used to and we don't play with the same sense of reasonable urgency as we used to under Fergie. Yes, LVG has made some questionable decision during his time with us.

But I would be more than okay with him staying with us IF he agrees to stay longer! As it stands right now, he wants to retire at the end of his contract with us. I don't like that one bit. If he wants to be done with football, that is his decision and I respect it. But we as a football club are at a very delicate phase right now where we need consistency, even if we're not grinding out great results right now.

I read somewhere that Fergie was under lots of pressure during his first few years at United because he wasn't getting results, then he started winning. I'm not comparing Fergie to LVG because clearly they have different methods and visions when it comes to football. But LVG is a proven manager, even if his methods are different. In other words, he is no Moyes. If LVG tells us that he will stay until we are firmly back with a better structured youth system and an A team, then I'd say give the man all the time and resources he needs because he can get us places.

But if he insists on seeing out his contract, regardless of where we end up at the time, I say he should go at the end of this season so we can focus on our present as well as future with someone else.

I thought not playing Schneiderlin was a big mistake.

De Gea was fantastic, as with many other attackers. Don't even get me started on Martial, what a player and more importantly what a game.

Martials composure is godly

The last minute goal hides the fact that we were very lucky not to actually lose that. It's a great feeling but Everton had us in the second half, even despite the decisions going against us.

Thought Van Gaal's subs worked well. Valencia played very well again coming on.

Fellaini was very good and the goal plus the block was absolutely huge.

[–]the_trainmanRooney 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

I don't think it's as black and white. As many chances as Everton had, we had quite a few chances to finish the game off in the first half as well. It kinda evens itself out.

Everton pressed us hard in the second half but we were always on top of it. It got worse once Martial was hobbling - this meant that we were effectively playing with 10 men. with 11 men, I don't think our stress-levels would have rose as high.

Agree w/ your other points.

May have simplified it, but I feel Everton had some very very good chances which on another day may have put us to bed.

I loved that game honestly, free flowing attack, the skill and flair Rashford, Lingard, and Martial had all together was fantastic, that created chances with the freedom

[–]NerverekWhen Seagulls follow the Trawler 1

Rojo has been responsible for giving the ball away a lot! I really hope he works on this aspect of his game. No complaints with his crossing though!

In the next few games i'd quite like Darmian at Left Back and Valencia at Right Back.

He's been pretty good today inn my opinion. Went up forwards a lot, and made good passes.

Finally a win at Wembley in the FA Cup. Certainly due. We were completely overrun for a spell there though.

We have one more game to go. Watford gave us two hard games and had Ighalo been on form, we wouldn't have gotten 6 points from those fixtures. I'm a bit more scared of Palace, though. If Zaha and Bolasie are fit, they might cause some real problems. Deulefou caused us some problems when he came in. Palace wingers might be able to the same but for the whole game. It was a phenomenal game today, but we should finish games off early when we're on top, else they will come back to bite us.

Loved the game, but I really do feel a really good 10 will allow these kids to really thrive.

We didn't miss Mata at all today. Which says a lot when you consider the occassion.

Yeah. I do enjoy Mata when he's really performing, but even then it's less a constant contribution and more a killer pass/insane goal kind of situation, which is nice, but you need your 10 for more than those flashy moments.

I'm still deciding whether that was a pen or not. he cleared the ball first but then the left leg went in and tackled the opponent. Anyway good game :)

I think it's the fact that his foot gets caught in the ground initially that the ref thinks there is contact there. If it is for Timbo's trailing leg it is very harshly given. Either way, he should hold his head up high. He was solid again.

It was a big game for him. Looked good considering his age and his inexperience in big matches

Serious discussion? Ok.

Daddy De Gea: God, Angel, Divine, you name it.

TFM has all the talent and attributes to become a great player. He was nervous today but Daddy De Gea got his back. Tony V did good as a sub keeping that right side alive.

Carrick... Man, he's been hit and miss this season, I get it, he's old, whatevs. But until the 60th minute he was controlling the match tempo. He was being pressured by 2-3 players constantly but he put out the ball quickly. I can see Blind play like that in the future, but for now Blind takes too much time to decide on a pass.

Rooney: Delightful. Mobile, saved our butts at Lukaku's chance, whipping out passes to wingers and Rashford. Great stuff. Far better #10 than Mata against physical teams.

Fellaini & Ander: Like Carrick, hit and miss. But I like their spirit, never gave up. Fella was strong in the air and on the ground, scored. Contributed a lot to the defense. Herrera, our cheeky little fucker. Took a bullet for the team on that counter, worked his butts off to give Anthony the pass he deserves.

Lingard: What to do with this kid? Great first touch, short passing and pace, but awful crossing and finishing. Needs to work on his composure.

Rojo: A bit shaky, however helped Martial a lot on offense.

Smalling & Blind: Still much to do, especially at the last 30 mins. A lot of times we concede late goals, however those interceptions were very important.

Martial & Rashford: Ah, I love this two beautiful men.

I love Rooneys new position and I really hope he commits to it in the long run.

I absolutely love watching the youth lads link up on the pitch. Rashford and Lingard had a beautiful one-two flick play together and you've seen them do that kind of stuff before. You can really tell they've been playing together for a while and it's great to see some chemistry in the squad. Really hope Memphis can join in on this chemistry in years to come.

Thought Carrick had a pretty poor game.

Wait what? apart from the mistake in the 5th minute, he's actually pretty solid today. Looked energetic, runs with the ball, and started our attacks with his passes pretty well i'd say

[–]azogthorinThere's only one Darren Fletcher

Wasn't vintage Carrick, but wasn't that poor that he has to be singled out.

[–]Iyufa 0

To be fair, he almost got caught out a few times in the last 10 minutes because Valencia was running forward with the ball. I thought that might be a good time to bring in Schneiderlin for fresh legs. But he's done surprisingly well.

He seemed everywhere this game. I can't remember the last time I've seen him pressing the defense in their third during a normal run of play. Looked like him, Rooney, and Fellaini were covering each other well all game.

Jesse Lingard is a squad player at best. Decent attacking movement, okay dribbling and good passing but he's not someone who can grab the match by the scruff of the neck. His finishing and long-shots - pivotal for a good attacking midfielder is really, really poor.

Someone like Coutinho would have buried at least one of the chances he got. I really hope we go for James this summer.

I like the kid, but he's not good enough for where we want to be.

Other than that, good all around performance. Martial MOTM.

I thought all of the subs were spot on today. Also Rooney looks great playing midfield, wouldn't mind making that move permanent with our young guys playing so well up front

    Elated with the win.

Fellaini looked immense today. Rooney and Martial also played really well. And De Gea was, well De Gea.

But it still really bugs me that wecan't keep the ball and string a few passes together when we are line-up. We have never really made that jump of controlling the tempo of the game when we are leading, while we do that reasonably well when we are in a deadlock or trailing.

Also, Rojo should have been subbed of when Deulofeu had come on since he ragged the Argentine pretty hard in their last encounter.

Feel sorry for TFM. He sure is a tank. And he did quite well too. But as in the case of any youngster, he is still raw and his decision making was suspect. Not necessarily the penalty incident itself. Though IMO, it was not really bad a challenge even though it was a deserved penalty. Hope he learns and gets better from today's experience.

Rooney was immense - tracked back, saved a certain goal and was always available in midfield. Drove forward with the ball and spread play out as well.

There was times during the game where I thought "wow, we've finally got ourselves a midfielder" he looked as good as Vidal etc today.

So many fucking Americans on /r/soccer saying "TFM made contact?! blatant penalty :L ?!"

Fuck off, he timed his tackle perfectly and it wasn't a fucking 'scissor kick' at all, he slid in, hooked his foot and got the ball.

Fosu had a bad game today. Lukaku was horrible. I'd not spend 60 million on him

I thought Fosu over all had a decent game (given his age I think he had a phenomenal game). I actually think the tackle was decent, shame his trailing leg followed through.

It's not about the pen but most of the defensive mistakes in the first half were of Fosu The Lukaku one on one where Rooney cleared it. He had no clue what happens. Of course it's his first bad game and I hope he'll learn on his mistakes

Fosu had a decent game. It was the ref who gave that stupid call

[–]ThatStiffyAceJones | The English Battle Tank 1

Well it's not just the penalty. In fact Valencia also had trouble defensively on the right so I think you can give Everton's left side a lot of credit today.

Carrick invites so much pressure when were not attacking , Bastian would have been class for today

Fellaini was fantastic today. Looked absolutely shattered towards the end. Lingard really lacked end product.

We were played out of the park in the second half, unacceptable. I thought the Fosu-Mensah challenger though soft, was a penalty. We should have been given one also.

I was fuming until that second goal went in. Why did we wait til the 87th minute to make a change when we needed a goal throughout that entire second half? With how poor Lingard was (poor crossing and finishing), I was hoping to see an attacking change much earlier

Van Gaal should stay imo. He needs a bit more time to implement his philosophy. It's already starting.
