Start listening at around :14 mins if you want to hear the part about censorship and theymos

Vitalik Buterin of Ethereum said much the same thing regarding Bitcoin at the recent London Meetup. It was hardly a veiled remark.

Theymos fucking off or getting ousted will be a big relief like when gox went bust

I hear this name Theymos a few times. Other than he's the moderator of /r/bitcoin, how big is he in the bitcoin space in terms of # of bitcoins held, etc.

He also operates bitcointalk.org. And bitcoin.comorg iirc?

He's not significant as a hodler, or a developer, or as anything else. His significance is that he's sitting on top of the most important sites for Bitcoin and is using them to strangle progress on the block size.

Not bitcoin.com (which came later), but bitcoin.org (which is the original Bitcoin site).

Ah, right, I knew something felt off about that! bitcoin.com is Ver. Thanks!

What's in it for him?

I only have speculation. Like most of the people on the "1MB is no problem" side, he quite possibly does actually believe it. He has argued that a "controversial hard fork" is dangerous, which is reasonable, but seems unaware that he's a major factor in making it controversial (resulting in a self-fulfilling prophecy that Bitcoin can't increase its capacity).

One might suspect that perhaps he's additionally financially incentivized by a company which has made a habit out of throwing money at prominent people who support their view that 1MB is A-OK until they decide it isn't, but there is no evidence for that, and it would appear to break Reddit's ToS if so, thus I'm sure that can't be the case.

I'm sure Thermos also holds a very large number of bitcoins. He collected thousands for bitcointalk.org forum software upgrades which never happened.

My personal guess would be that he's long since dumped most of them, but that's just my speculation based on his character.

He scammed a few million usd off people in the message boards after he took it over.

Links?

They weren't worth that much when he scammed them.

I think he also sits on IRC #bitcoin as "midnightmagic" The handle seems derived from Theymos name IRL.

A regular Goebles this guy.

That's an interesting claim. I'd be fairly surprised if the two are the same and I think midnightmagic has been doxxed. You're welcomed to expand on your statement though.

No way Theymos would let himself get doxxed. I've talked to him in the past and he might be the most privacy-aware individual I've ever met.

Theymos has been doxxed, actually, though I obviously won't link to it here.

The thermos of muffled speech!

Way to sound like a 12 year old with that text! That's really going to strike the fear of god into him!

You could at least have gone for humor and done something with a thermos.

loosen your tie a bit, man.

Very few are going to buy/wear a shirt like that. You'd be much better off with an anti-censorship message with a secondary reference to theymos.

You are right, very few will wear that shirt to work. We plan to make other shirts that are "office friendly" that relay the same message.

This, on the other hand, is funny in our opinion, and is a shirt we want to wear ourselves. It also succinctly displays public feeling about theymos, he's a bitch.

Yeah I would buy a shirt like that but I want something I can wear to work

Get a t-shirt friendly employer?

t-shirt

More like unprofessional and profanity friendly

[–]BIGbtc_Integration -1ポイント0ポイント  (1子コメント)

Theymos is irrelevant. Theymos is irrelevant. Theymos is irrelevant. Who cares about Theymos. All you're doing is validating Theymos when you put his name in the headlines. How about Andreas heading up a competing forum instead of fighting a losing battle. One last time Andreas, Theymos is irrelevant. Roger is on the right track but already has issues with censoring.

Seriously. People need to move on. Anyone that doesn't already know about Theymos and r/bitcoin are a lost cause
