I'm glad he is not retired. But I'm with Dana on this one, I like that Dana didn't give in to the special treatment. It's a smart business decision as well for Dana/UFC, so other fighter's don't start demanding extra treatment b/c McGregor gets it.

Yes. Let's keep all the money in Dana and Lorenzo's pockets and never let the athletes get it in their head that they're the real show. People with this mindset are killing me.

Because that mindset does not exist except in the strawman of your own creation.

I'm not sure what that means in this context.

A strawman is when you formulate your opponents position in a way that it is indefensible in a debate.

People are saying that. Where would you like the money to go because it's being made, and people clearly have a problem with Conor getting it.

I would have a problem with paying an employee for work they refused to do as well.

He didn't refuse to do it, he said he'd do it later and they wouldn't be flexible.

Except that's practically exactly ZenWisdom was saying. He said fighters shouldn't get 'special treatment'. These guys are putting their fucking lives on the line for pittances and they shouldn't expect decent treatment??

Yousay people want to keep money in Dana and Lorenzos pockets, when in reality those people want Conor to be held to the same standards as his opponent. Allowing him to skip media events allows him more continuous training than Nate. Conor is acting as a classic diva here.

No. Conor is saying he'll do the press conference in NY and the one the week of the fight. He'll promote the fight like the UFC asks everyone else to promote, if they want extra out of him like he's been giving them, they should pay for it. They shouldn't expect extra promotion out of him if they want to pay him like everyone else. That doesn't even make sense.

They are not asking for extra promotion out of him. Every fighter is supposed to be at whatever it is this media event is. Conor is not being asked to do anything extra.

They all are being asked to do extra, he's just the only pointing out that it's extra from the normal promotion that they do, and that they're not being compensated. He's also pointing out that he doesn't need that extra promotion, that the other fighters do, an asshole thing to say, but also true going off of his numbers.

It would be like the NFL telling players they need to start doing an extra press conference once a month. In that case, the Players Union would either agree, or disagree before the NFL could put it in place. In the UFC, they can say we want 100 press conferences and if you don't do it, you don't fight. There has to be a line somewhere and Conor is drawing it.

Its not a press conference. Its a photoshoot/commercial. Every fighter is obligated to do this. Conor was the one who insisted on the Diaz rematch when the UFC was against it and they gave it to him. Conor only got the rematch and all of the money he's made because of his promotion skills.

[–]WheynweedTeam McGregor 1

Of the simple fact that Conor has promoted the UFC more in these past few years than any other mixed martial artist ever.

reminds me of frank and mac running a sweatshop on IASIP

Yea, as if showing up to promote yourself for your own fight is tactical oppression by the UFC... lol

They are only on the UFC's side when it's against Conor. Bunch of fucking hypocrites.

Right every other day is shit on dana day.

It would be smart for Dana to let his cash cow focus on avenging his loss instead of doing unnecessary promotion.

Are you kidding me? They've been giving this guy special treatment since he arrived. He unlike every other fighter has both transcended the company AND exercises this power when opportunities arise. He has been playing a long game since Dana first gave him the star treatment and now they can't control him. The fact is Conor has outsmarted and ouwitted the empire and they are at a loss for what to do. I'm not even a McGregor fan but I love that he is bucking the system and putting the screws to that roided bald piece of shit and his cohorts. Best part is Dana won't even trash talk him in the media, says he "likes" and "respects" Conor. Lol they're fucked.

No one aside from maybe JBJ and Ronda can do that. They don't have the leverage. They don't bring in the numbers and their retirement tweets wouldn't get as much attention. And if they did, maybe special treatment would be a good idea for the company.

The thing is for more than the last two years Conor has done more work and more promotion for the UFC than any other fighter by a large margin.

He has also said he will do the New York presser. He isn't demanding much really. Just doesn't want to fly across half the planet for some bullshit media shite.

I guarantee you if the promo stuff was in London and Dublin Conor wouldn't give a fuck. But it's a 12 hour flight to Cali for him. That can fuck up your training. For Diaz it's a short flight to Vegas and the other press conference is in his home town, it's really no bother for him.

Other fighters can demand incentives when they bring in the cash he does. Simple as that.
