I don't know if this is talked about in America, but in Europe, some people are forcing gender parity regardless of competence. That kind of stuff belittles women.

Do you think in Europe the current imparity is because of lack of competence on the part of women?

Or is it because there is still a huge roadblock for someone to be hired in simply them being a woman, and even moreso when they are of childbearing age. Studies show that the sam CV, but with a male name get more call backs. In Germany, not some backwater land. Discrimination is a current problem and quotes are a timid, if anything as of yet ineffective way to combat that.

Those enforced gender parity laws don't even enforce parity, they don't enforce 50% and they certainly don't apply everywhere, just for top managers or occasionally the government (where REPRESENTATION is a huge issue).

And they do NOT enforce picking someone who is not competent, only picking someone of equal or higher competence if present. Companies do not get penalized if they cannot make quotes right away. There are really really generous time frames (like a year) to fix quotes.

seriously. anytime a woman or minority is hired, the automatic assumption is that they must've been hired for their gender/race, not that they're competent enough to do the fucking job. men don't have to defend themselves like this, why are women put under constant scrutiny? people make these complaints but i've never seen ANY evidence backing it. so if you have any, i'd love to see it.

Turning everything men into everything women, that's how I saw it.

oh no, ONE WOMAN gets placed on the currency and suddenly we're living in a matriarchy! is your identity as a man so fragile that you can't handle women being empowered? you should want women to be equal, but you just turn this into a pissing contest where you think that equal rights are a zero sum game.

again, women gaining rights does not mean men are losing anything. this change in the currency doesn't affect you AT ALL. more female characters in media doesn't affect you AT ALL. the fact that this change is threatening to you just shows how much of a small-minded, sad little sexist person you are.

I guess you don't watch European news? Many far left wing parties are enforcing it already. Some companies are doing it as a marketing strategy.

I'm in Europe,

When my boss tells recruiting he wants to see more female applicants it doesn't mean he's hiring unqualified people. It means he's ensuring more women are approached asking to apply. And he might interview a handful.

They still have to actually prove they are as valuable, we still hire more men than women.

The problem is when women like myself have to face constant scrutiny about getting a job to balance out the genders.

If you look at women who get these jobs and automatically assume they can't possibly have merit because of their gender then you have an issue with prejudice. Because no one says they lower the bar. That has always been an assumption stemming from a systematic belief that women cannot be equally capable candidates.

I've seen plenty of women applicants not be chosen, even in teams desperate for a token women, in a company that had made a name for itself in tackling diversity. Because we just don't hire people if they can't do the job. The only time a woman might be favoured, she must be EQUALLY qualified.

The problem holding us back that the people who are already proving their merit - which is nearly all the women making leaps. Are being written off my people telling us it's not 'natural' enough progress when we want to be encouraging.

If an industry has no role models. A terrible track record of sexual harassment, and and a complete lack of trust in you.

Why should we instead say, "no no, don't be encouraging, we'll just wait it out. ".

Which is all well and good for you, but I really don't appreciate some dude telling me I don't deserve my job. I kicked ass in my application, and by being here I am proving that I am a kick ass employee despite my gender. By being here and succeeding , me and other women are actually doing something to change the assumed climate within the corporation. We're. It going to changed people's ideas, or break outdated stereotypes by not being there.

It's called giving people a chance, when it's about taking a chance on underprivileged kids - giving them internships. No one seems to have a problem it.

Lots of people software engineers I know will tell you, the girls usually worked so much harder. Because when we want to try a male dominated field we are constantly reminded that if we fail, we will be taken as evidence of the incapability of our whole gender. If we succeed we will be told that we were just given an easy time because of our gender. And didn't succeed anything.

No one actually hires less qualified women. That prejudice is on you. They encourage women to find their own confidence and apply. And sometimes they get the job.

We don't have equality because you are right here telling me you automatically assume strangers are less qualified because they are female. When you clearly have no evidence to back that up other than 'Feeling'.

I love how your average guys reaction to a female dominated board room or science is this argument. I'd argue that the height of equality would be nobody batting an eye at a surplus of females in a male dominated industry. But they bat lots and lots of eyes, at a way they never do at men, otherwise there wouldn't be nothing but men in most board rooms.

With your average woman out performing men on an academic level, the assumption that a female dominated workplace would be a step back in equality would be patently untrue if you're arguing that the only merit should be skill. Were that the case, we'd be running the world, because we're out performing men in academic settings almost fully across the board. The fact there is a lack of women in so many fields, is very telling of hiring practices you haven't once bothered to complain about. But bitches, right? Who do we think we are expecting equal consideration for our achievements?
