Cubicles is a graphic novel about an epic space adventure with two not so epic co-workers, Wally and Ost. manning the helm. Most of their day is spent drinking coffee, avoiding work, and pencil fighting.
However, when they unknowingly stumble on a corporate takeover, they are shipped off on a planet spanning adventure across the cosmos. They'll face down office zombies, epic pencil fights, savage aliens, space pirates, galactic squid, and the greatest horror the universe has ever seen...tedious data entry.
Can they survive their journey? Can they make it home? Can they save the company? Will Wally become worthy of the love of his life? Will...someone get me more coffee?
Cubicles is a 128 page deluxe reprinting of the sold out first printing. So what makes it deluxe? Other then the fact that I decided to call it deluxe, it also has new super fancy cover art. You also get color pages. Yep, that's right. The original was black and white, now color. Welcome to the 20th century. Is that not enough for you? Well you also get some 3-panel gag strips to solidify the title of deluxe.
The softcover book will be 128 pages full of story, concept art, and gag strips. The main story is 84 pages with 6 chapters covers. The chapter covers were drawn on 6 pages as spread showing all the characters fighting a giant octopus. There are 72 3-panel strips and a 10 page comic that was the first time appearance of Wally and Ost.
Wally is the main hero of Cubicles. He's actually based off of the quiet part of my personality. Get it...Walter...Wally. Very insecure and really just goes along with anything Ost says.
Ost is Wally's best friend. Ost is another part of my personality...Ost...Ostlie. He's a little crazy, a little outside the box and just wants to have fun.
Sarah is one righteous lady. She's not afraid of anything and won't back down from any challenge. Sarah also happens to be the boss' daughter and Wally's crush.
Blaine's the villian. He's a big fat stupid head.
Body is Blaine's bodyguard. He's also a big...he's really big actually...Body is a great guy, love him.
That would be me, Walter Ostlie. I love telling stories and I love that comics let me explore any world I want. I've produced two graphic novels. One is Cubicles and the other is Shiver Bureau.
Shiver Bureau is about two supernatural investigators that are trying to solve a case of missing orphans in a London that's overrun with ghosts. The Shiver Bureau book is also available via this Kickstarter if you want to pick up both of my books.
All physical books will be signed and come with digital copies of Shiver Bureau and Cubicles.
I am using Kickstarter to help raise funds for the printing of Cubicles. The bulk of the funds will go into print cost. Kickstarter fees take about 8%. Shipping costs will eat up another 20%. The remaining % will be used on printing and delivery costs.
If we raise more then the goal, I hope to do an offset printing which will allow for a higher quality product with all the bells and whistles.
Risks and challenges
This will be my third Kickstarter. My first and second went off without a hitch and I fulfilled rewards in record time. I know what I am doing when it comes to getting books printed and shipped out. My last Kickstarter ended on September 23, 2015 and I started shipping books by February 10, 2016. That's with doing an epic upgrade to a hardcover book thanks to hitting a massive stretch goal.
Also the bulk of the work is complete. Just a few colors and book design need to be finished. I'm doing all that work, so we don't have to worry about a third party dropping the ball.
The only possible delay could be shipping slow downs or if we raise so much money that we have to do some awesome upgrades. However, if that happens then it will be worth the wait...do I hear another hardcover?
