If I didn't use turn signals every time, 2am and deserted streets or no, I was a bad person and a reckless driver.

Also if I only brushed my teeth once a day, I was disgusting. And a bad person.

Honestly the most ridiculous part was not the "rules", it was the fact that if I got upset about it and told him he was being unreasonable/unfair/overbearing, his answer was always that I only felt that way because I was so naive and oversensitive and inexperienced that I was misinterpreting his constructive and supportive advice, and maybe if I was smart and worldly like him then I could disagree with sufficient grace and tact so as not to offend him. The fundamental message was always that there was something wrong with me.

Tbh I'm with him on this one. Use your turn signals every time so it becomes a habit and you'll never forget it. The lives you might save are worth the 0.3 seconds extra effort.

You're totally right. When I had a driveway I even used my turn signal to turn into it at 2 am with no one else on the road

If you're driving by yourself, drive how you like. If I get a lift with you and you look like you're driving without due care, don't be offended if I don't ride with you again. I admit that I speed when I'm on my own, but I owe it to my passenger to be extra careful when they're with me.

I think a lot of the commenters are being unfair here. Everyone with a license has forgotten to use a turn signal at least once. Everyone has had a bad day where they either had to rush out of the house and didn't have time to brush their teeth, or were too exhausted to remember when they got home.

It's a human response to be upset if a partner holds you to unrealistic standards and doesn't expect you to make mistakes here and there.

I kind of do think its disgusting to only brush your teeth once a day. You're not a bad person because of it, you just might have stinky breath at night.
