The Parisian press are very close to PSG. At times this season it's seemed like they've been too close, almost a PR outlet for the French runaway champions. Fawning pieces have been everywhere and PSG were lifted up as a truly great team.
Therefore when Manchester City knocked the French club out there was shock. This was supposed to be PSG's year and fans couldn't quite believe the club wouldn't be playing in the semi-finals. An arrogance had grown over the past few months due to the fawning over PSG and some players, and the continual positive reporting of the club's ownership and ambitions.
All this helps L'Equipe and Le Parisien get information from PSG. If the French club had made a move to appoint Jose Mourinho then you'd have suspect either one, or both, would know about it. Despite that, Sky Sports are insisting it's the case, saying their sources have told them there's been an approach.
The article is written by Andy Burton, who would appear to have good connections to the Mourinho camp. Last week when Sky had their exclusive on Zlatan Ibrahimovic being keen to join Manchester United, but only if Van Gaal leaves, the article was also by Andy Burton.
And back in November, the same journalist was again fed information on Mourinho. Sky headlined a piece 'Jose Mourinho's job at Chelsea 'not under threat'', he was sacked the following month. That's not to discredit those claims, but to show how Sky seem to have a source who feeds them positive Mourinho news.
This isn't big news in Paris, by mid afternoon the two best connected news sources hadn't even covered it, they probably will eventually.
On Monday, Le Parisien journalist Dominique Séverac took part in a question and answer session with fans and was asked if PSG sacked Laurent Blanc, who could be a target.
Séverac answered: “You would think PSG would enquire about Mourinho (Man United could miss out on Champions League, a problem maybe for the Portuguese), Pellegrini and Pochettino."
That shouldn't be dressed up as anything other than opinion, and in no way was Séverac trying to relay inside information.
RMC's Mohamed Bouhafsi, who we have found to be excellent on French football news, said on Tuesday afternoon that the reports were wrong... PSG have not contacted Mourinho.
Just over a week ago we put together a timeline of Mourinho to Manchester United rumours, and it's worth pointing out that often when Manchester United are looking slightly stable there's been links with other clubs. Duncan Castles has linked Mourinho to Real Madrid, Inter Milan and even Arsenal, and there have been plenty of claims about the manager's impatience over the situation.
There's every chance the latest Mourinho claims are more about Manchester United than PSG, at this stage anyway.
