There's a saying where I come from in Ireland "You can take the boy out of the bog, But you cant take the bog out of the boy". You can claim them as Americans but they were fighting the British flying Irish flags and wearing green while doing it.

I'll chime in for haggis seeing as he's a faker. Moved here in 91 and it was rough adjusting. You think we both speak English it must be the same right? Yeah, no. You get people who enjoy the accent and ask questions which is cool, you get people who every July 4th like to tell me they kicked my ass (this still happens after 25 years) and finally you get the people who for one reason or another fucking hate you. Maybe they like the accent and don't know how to express jealously, maybe they think you're gay (something about manners and speaking properly doesn't always sit well with the southerners in the states) or maybe they just don't like that you are an intolerable tit about everything. My two years of high school weren't fun. College was a little better but still some measure of bullshit. My professional life has faired much better on account of the "hey everything you say sounds pretty smart!" phenomenon. My daughter takes the piss out of my accent (she's 8) and it's adorable but people doing Mary Poppins accents gets old fast. I really only miss good tv and scotch eggs so America is pretty neat but it's often difficult to be different. No matter how minor.
