I am supposed to have a History dissertation proposal ready for the end of the month and to be honest I still am not sure what to do. I have been looking into doing something on Anglo-Iranian (Or American-Iranian) relations but really don't know what angle to go for. Probably gonna end up procrastinating until the last minute.

BEAUTIFUL weather has found its way into Indiana somehow. I went for a run this morning in just shorts and Tshirt, and it was great! Beat my fastest starting mile by a bit.

Also, I think I was a good Samaritan, as I saw a cop sitting in the middle of the street after a hill, in a speed trap before construction. So while I ran down the street, I looked at drivers and Pointed down while mouthing "slow down". Surprisingly I think most got the picture (they were going 55+ though so who knows). Many waved at me or nodded. I hope they got the picture. On the way back down the road I wasn't able to signal them however, and I saw one fall victim to the trap.

Also doing 3 projects! My history one on the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, going well (due next Wednesday!)! My CS252 one on making a Resistance Web App, and I am 70% done with backend (due in a week). Lastly, my semester long group project where we are making a Social Media App aimed at hikers. That one is due next Friday! Crunch time people!

Captain America Civil War reviews are looking great, very excited! I wonder if it will shape civil war memory in any way. Or if they will be nonpolitical.

Lastly, I have been thinking about making the monday/friday threads sort by best again. They used to pull in around 300 comments, but now are pulling 100~. They Wondering Wednesday thread (sorted by best) is pulling in a lot, and that is remarkable because its a specific topic. I know we may not be in the golden age of Badhistory anymore (last july we were hitting 600k a month, now its 400k), but I am interested in seeing how we can boost community conversations and traffic. Or maybe it was just the summer bulge. We will see!

This weekend for my Tumblr I did a write-up for a beachless Yucatan vacation. If anyone wants six days of archaeology sites and a museum, this is for you.

Defending my thesis today, wish me luck! Either way I'm excited to start on a new topic in the future.

I went to a farmer's market this weekend and won a bag of vegetables in a raffle. I can identify most of them, but I'm now left with the question - what do I do with a pound of fennel? Anyone have some good recipes using fennel? Or kale? Or what I think is chard?

You can braise fennel with some butter and Parmesan for a simple dish. I think I have a recipe for a pasta sauce with fennel and sardines, but I know not everyone has the same feelings about sardines as I do. You could also make a simple salad with the bulb and some citrus and use the stalks for making a stock.

I found some recipes from Martha Stewart. Fennel is apparently the misunderstood genius of the garden?

I have so many recipes that I have to shy away from because of that. A recipe might call for a tablespoon of fresh parsley, but that leaves me with a whole lot of leftover parsley!

I keep an herb garden for exactly those situations. Plus, the garden makes me happy. :)
