Bank? What about being your own bank?

Darknet to me implies no identity... Therefore a legal exchange that deals with fiat is useless on the darknet other than maybe for security reasons but I would imagine there are speed issues that would make an exchange through Tor be super painful and useless.. Unless of course it's for anonymity and is therefore illegal as it could not comply with proper regulatory practices...

So we're already dealing an illegal premise to begin with ... But .. It COULD work with a lot of trust and a lot of rep building

Trade happen as usual off chain on the website like all exchanges.. ... This Can this be done with multisig when it comes to all the crypto deposits to give users a lil security .. For fiat deposits it would have to be cash in the mail.. Or gift cards or accounts on websites with value or prepaid cards or anything that the exchange could implement/have a system to receive)... Really not sure how the exchange would handle their central address unless they own an island or something like that

And withdrawal by ....CASH in the mail...(or gift cards? Or prepaid visas ?) (up to you to deal with anonymity of mailing addresses like Silk Road people did with their mail) .. Yaya I know ...

And so on..

The exchange could invite " pay out services" that handle secretive secure mailing of cash for a fee and maybe the user chooses based on reputation like you would choose ups or fedex..whenever you make w withdrawal

..There can also be a trustable-ish (by reputation) third party escrow like or community authority service .. many of them ..that work on rep that can hold a key to the multisig and /or deal with disputes between the exchange and the users.. For a fee of course

Cash in the mail is not too cool but it's the darknet people!

There now you have a darknet exchange. Go code it.

Oh yeah and since is the darknet make sure you introduce something to allow for an exit scam into the code

The darknet economy works because of anonymity, so a fiat/BTC exchange wouldn't be possible since users have to reveal their identity at some point. An altcoins exchange could be workable but really i don't see the point apart from drawing LE's attention

There would have to be some reason to trust a DN entity with your money.

Sure. Cryptography + the blockchain opens the door to trustless provable banking.

Have a look at fidelity-bonded banks: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=146307.0

Fidelity-bonded banking allows you to send payments instantly, while still preserving your financial privacy. The recipient of the funds doesn't have access to your financial information, such as where the funds came from, and the bank only knows where the funds came from, not where they went. The system ensures that everyone can effectively audit these banks, and if these audits uncover fraud, that fraud can be cryptographically proven to the world.

its quite likely that coinjoin will be implimented at some point greatly increasing anonymity.

Obviously this will make governments and banks hate bitcoin even more so it needs to reach a much higher user base before it can be.

Also sidechains will probably provide anonymity somehow although I cant describe how but as with anything in this world, when there is demand there will be supply and the incentive (demand) already exists for anonymity.

I dont really know what your idea of a darknet bank would be? a lender? a place to store bitcoins? a place to donate to the Clinton Foundation? Maybe you mean a place to exchange fiat for bitcoins anonymously?
