Don't paint everyone with the same brush. He gets plenty of criticism on here.

The difference with Fellaini / Carrick is that Memphis is young and needs playtime through his struggle if he is ever to improve and adapt to the league. He's still a kid, and is very clearly extremely talented. He has potentially many years ahead of him at the club, but he won't amount to anything if he's benched every time he has a poor game.

It comes down to whether or not the club think his potential is worth his current struggles, and if the risk will be worth the reward in the long run. He definitely hasn't been great this season, but I'd have liked to seen him given more game time off the bench.

The best is yet to come

where have you been? Memphis has been getting abuse aplenty. The team has been shit as a collective. Not just Memphis. He had a relatively decent game considering it was a 1-0 against worst team in the league and that wasn't down to him as an individual. We all love to point fingers when in reality the entire team has been shit and we are playing shit football. Only decent consistent performers have been DDG / Blind (had a few bad games) / Smalling (bit fatigued) Martial (couple of bad games) and now Rashford. Thats 4/5 out of 11.

Memphis is also only 22. The likes of Martial have done him an injustice because he has over performed. Anyone who claims they anticipated a 19 yo striker to take to the league like Martial did is a liar. Most of us barely knew him. He's an anomaly. Haven't even had Memphis a season and i've seen people calling to sell him. Such bollocks. We know why he was purchased and what he can do. So give him a chance ffs.

He's had a shite season but it'd be silly not to put that down to him being young and having difficulty adapting to the league. He's shown some quality and in order to be successful he needs to work on his decision making and understand that the best way to silence his critics is to be a team player rather than trying to go for goal every time he gets the ball.

He had a shot on target when he almost scored a goal in the 90th minute. He played a very strong second half yesterday as well.

I really want to believe, but I've been burned way to much on "potentially" great players to get my hopes up. Will grant him more time before I give a definite answer

I think Van Gaal would sell him if he stayed another season

Once he's in a tactic where he's allowed to run, he'll become incredible

I think he has a mental problem. He seems to shine when he believes he is better than the opponent, for example against Club Brugge or Midjtellland. At other times against Premier League he doesn't seem very confident - but I have no doubt he has a lot of skill.

Memphis has gotten plenty of abuse on here and other United supporters' forums in social media, and I'm always one of those having to defend him. He's a young guy playing his first season, in a new team (during a tough transition period), in a new league, in a new country; it's never going to be as simple as "just play good". Add to all these factors that he is a real confidence player and he isn't getting much play time, even immediately AFTER going on a run of good form...crush the confidence of a confidence player and you crush the player. The rest of the players you mention are all Premier League veterans with loads of experience, if they mess up then it's somewhat reasonable to be upset with them. Memphis will come good in the next season or 2. Once he gels with the rest of the younger players, we'll have a hell of a squad for the foreseeable future...it was never going to happen overnight.

He's a talented player that runs on confidence. We've seen glimpses of what he can do, but if he doesn't play he won't be able to do that consistently.

Honestly haven't been impressed. He's obviously talented but in terms of work ethic & decision making (more important attributes) he's miles behind the likes of Rashford, Martial & even Lingard. People say he needs to play regularly to get the best out of him but I'd say he should be trying to make the most of the opportunities he is being given.

Memphis had a quiet first half and a good second half. Before he was dropped, he was also looking quite bright. He was creating chances and getting into spaces. We played better free flowing football when he got on the ball.

Why do I always call for Memphis to play? Because we play too safe. We don't shoot, we don't create chances and we play the slowest most lifeless football I've seen a top team play. Memphis is our answer to this, a player with flair, a player not afraid to have a go or play a risky through ball, and that's exactly why he doesn't play.

His performances haven't been what many were expecting. But we have seen he has serious ability both this season and in his time before United for both PSV and Netherlands. Similar to Ronaldo at 20, he is a very wasteful player but we have to give him freedom and playing time otherwise we won't see results.

I said this in another thread but would Ronaldo at 18 play in this current United side? No, absolutely not. He'd be benched for Lingard who is less likely to make a decisive pass or take a shot, risking the loss of possession. Just look at Pereira, many of you might have forgotten he even exists. A player most would consider our most talented player prior to Rashford and Timbo becoming first team players. A player with flair. A player not afraid to have a go or play that cutting edge pass, a player more prone to losing the ball. How many minutes of Premier League football has he accumulated? Just 98 over 4 appearances in 2 seasons (1 start, 3 substitute appearances).

I want exciting football back at United which is why I'm always calling out for Memphis to start. He is a confidence player and right now, he must be pretty low on confidence. He never starts even after Lingard has a string of terrible performences, he is never brought on as a sub even when chasing a goal and he isn't given freedom on the pitch. But when it all comes together, we have a fantastic player capable of tearing defenses into shreds, a player who can and will score from virtually anywhere. The fans and LVG needs to show faith in him because right now he is being scapegoated pretty badly. It'd be a shame to lose such a talented player.

Because he's young and in his first season in a new league. Plenty of players haven't had a great first season but have went on to become great, so he gets the benefit of the doubt. The others you mentioned have played here for years and have no excuse, although i suppose grandpa Carrick might.

[–]Launch_a_poo 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

People want him to play because he's exciting and we've had glimpse of what he can do. Although I say this as someone who doesn't mind when Mata, Fellaini or Carrick play

[–]mufcirclejerk 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

As everyone else has said, he gets plenty of abuse. If you'd gone to the game yesterday (or watched the highlights…) you'd have seen him hit the post with a shot.

He's been shite this season and his love of celebrity and expensive tat doesn't help. He will knuckle down and turn into a great player but right now he's not good enough to be in the first team.

How does he have a love of celebrity?
