I actually read the article and the comments in this thread are confusing me. The article says that the main woman is promoting disclosing your STD status. Like, if you have herpes, go ahead and tell everyone. Isn't this a good thing? Don't we want people to disclose their STD status instead of hiding it?

Researchers have recently found that being infected with Herpes virus may be associated with an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease later in life. What a #privilege!! #ShoutYourStatus #STIAwarenessMonth

Special link for the lazy.

Edit - Also, "Encephalitis caused by HSV-1 is rare, but it has the potential to cause significant brain damage or death".

"Other herpes viruses. Other herpes viruses that may cause encephalitis include the Epstein-Barr virus, which commonly causes infectious mononucleosis, and the varicella-zoster virus, which commonly causes chickenpox and shingles. "

This is unfortunate, because estimates are that up to 90% of the population is infected with a herpes simplex virus (but most people don't show symptoms). I believe this is where the call to decrease the stigma is coming from. Many people get it without ever even having sex or sexual relations.

Um, I never claimed that having herpes was a good thing or that it was harmless. I was just pointing out that the article is about being honest and disclosing your status, which is preferable to trying to hide it from your partners. I'm not sure what your comment has to do with my comment.

[–]Ser_Davos_Cworth [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

Oh hi, I wasn't trying to argue with you, I was just providing helpful additional details re:Herpes. At least that's what I was trying to go for. I quite agree with you that it'd be fantastic for all those with STIs to fully disclose their statuses to their potential partners so that they could make informed decisions. Sorry for any misunderstanding!

Oh ok, you are Herpes Facts! These articles are sad since most people have HSV-1, a lot of people get it in childhood from sharing drinks or getting kissed by relatives. But hopefully this means they can decrease Alzheimer incidents by giving the elderly HSV-1 blood tests and Valtrex.

I think it's kind of genius. Use the left's obsession with being proud about everything in order to learn who has sexually transmitted diseases. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be sleeping with anyone on the left any time soon

I wonder if the hashtag's been hijacked yet. Having an STI doesn't make you a victim. It just means you were too stupid to use protection.

Edit: Yup. It's been hijacked.

Just FYI, there is no way to protect against HPV unless you have NO CONTACT with genitals. That means hands and mouth too.

Same with Herpes especially since it can be spread through kissing

Genital Herpes and Oral Herpes are usually two different strains of the disease, but yes, The only way to protect against it is no contact.

Although they are 2 different strains it's possible to get HSV1 on your genitals and HSV2 on your mouth. I've even heard about a very unlucky man who got it in his eye.

The best ways to reduce risk of getting HPV are vaccination, condoms, and, yes, monogamous relationships. I know, I know, it's not popular these days to promote monogamy. It's that whole male patriarchy and puritanical Christian Evangelical oppression at play in our culture...

Vaccination only protects against a few strains. Condoms do not protect agaist HPV. Monogamy is awesome as long as your partner has never felt anyone else up ever. Otherwise.... You are still at risk.

I enjoy when the snowflakes have their hashtags hijacked. Like the "ResistCapitalism" one or others.

[–]Xorama [

What about the people who were born with HPV? What about those who were raped and contracted the disease? Just because you don't have it doesn't mean everyone who does is stupid and a lesser person because of it.

So what's the end result? We should all be proud that we have a disease? I mean honesty, I realise that a lot of people contract HPV through innocuous means, but what about those diseases that are contracted through iiresponsibility? Should we be proud of those as well?

[–]Xorama [

It's not yours or my place to say how others should feel.

So if I want to feel disgust at the stupidity and sexual promiscuity of these liberal idiots, then it's not their place to tell me how to feel either.

[–]gprime#NeverTrump [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

In turn then, nobody should be condemned for feeling that these feminists are lunatics.

[–]Jibrish#NEVERCRUZ [

You were asked what is the appropriate response from a body at large. Your response is utterly stupid.

Just to clear it up, the Feminist said that being able to be open about her STDs were a privilege. (Because she is surrounded by people who support her, one supposes.) She did not state that having the STD is a privilege!

The STI situation is probably much worse than people realize and trending much worse. Over 50% of the adult population or 33% of the total population currently lives with one or more STIs and increasing. With so many active carriers serving as walking incubators we're seeing ever more virulent and drug resistant strains emerge rapidly. Already multiple drug resistant gonorrhea and syphilis are spreading.

These Infected do not think they have the duty to inform their partners of their STDs, either. Sick world.

I think the article is missing the point that herpes is really common, isn't always sexually transmitted, and doesn't do much actual damage

How do you feel about the significant likelihood that you yourself are infected with HSV 1 or 2, even if you've never had sex? Should you be shunned or ashamed?

[–]DranoshSoCon, FinCon, antistatist, anti"equality" [

Neither does food poisoning that just causes someone to have explosive diarrhea, but if you had to tell people you have given people food poisoning because of poor hygiene, people would think twice about eating your food.

I don't understand what you're trying to say at all I'm sorry

True it's not so bad unless it a causes cancer a couple decades down the road. Also true that many people live symptom free with diseases like gonorrhea unaware that they are spreading it to others who will not be so fortunate. The really scary part is how quickly diseases will mutate into something more dangerous. It's only a matter of time and the more active carriers there are the faster this will occur.

[–]not_a_clever_dude [スコア非表示]  (3子コメント)

True about the actual harm, but it still reflects incredibly poor judgment.

I know someone who was born with herpes. It's not always the result of a choice you made

How so? A person I know who has herpes got it from her spouse, the father of her children. He didn't know that he had it when they became sexually active and therefore didn't tell her. How does her having herpes reflect bad judgement on her part?

About half the population has it and it's spread through kissing. Chances are if you've kissed more than 2-3 girls you've been exposed.

I'm curious to see how these people would react if the hashtag was being live steamed in a bar they were in. Especially if they were chatting up a person they were interested in having sex with.

Being able to be honest about having an STD isn't lunacy. It's your right as an individual. Making fun of that right is un-American.
