And here we go
The startup starts off with a big sticker price of $950,000 with a vague pitch that it will be a multimedia network of watchdog journalism in multiple mediums which isn't necessarily shitty nor is the lineup of legitimate journalists who have decades of experience exposing real stuff. The imagery being used seems a little dated or overstated the case but still, not that shitty.
And then we get to this image right after the first paragraph
Also seen on 9/11 truther websites, it's basically a huge verifiably false image that tries to claim that the Carlyle Group, the CIA, George Soros, Amy Goodman, the CIA again, Bill Moyers, Mark Zuckerberg, and Noam Chomsky are all embroiled in a vast left-wing media conspiracy. Never mind that much of "left" media or all media is missing from this paranoid diagram or that you know, most of these links are incidental or flat-out bullshit.
But hey, maybe it's just a small oversight.
The founder was Sibel Edmonds, a former FBI contractor who was fired for whistleblowing on legitimate violations in the translator unit and testified to Congress as such.
...who then claimed in 2004:
Never mind that she wouldn't be privy to this information, that al-Qaeda had almost no operatives which spoke her languages, that the FBI doesn't train paramilitary terrorists overseas, or that it was actively hunting al-Qaeda for its three terrorist attacks during the 90's.
This Kickstarter is a continuation of a blog site run by Edmonds where these theories are still literally being sold as books.
Like I said, I don't know what happened where something legit or at worst, shaky, dove into full-bore conspiracy theory territory but that should qualify it for being a bad Kickstarter that hides a pretty contrary agenda compared to what you are paying for if one doesn't read carefully. It is also why thankfully, it fell far short of its ambitious price goal.
tl;dr Million dollar fundraiser for independent media site is actually asking for money as a potential or alleged platform for conspiracy theories about random people who may be left and the FBI doing 9/11
