Seems like you completely forgot that the positions youhave seen him play are not his natural positions. He is just covering.

Fair point.

I just feel in most positions though that positioning is a vital trait to possess. Now I have no experience of playing anywhere near the level I'm commenting on, but I just feel he is one of the worst positional wise I have seen in a while.

I don't think positioning is a single skill set except in FM though. Only some players instinctively understand where they need to be for multiple positions.

Physically he is all there. Speed, strength, height all great qualities to have and for an 18 year old that is incredibly impressive.

What he needs to work on his positional play. He has often followed the ball into certain areas where he has left gaps open. Might be due to him playing fullback and being used to playing more centrally but he needs to make sure he works on this.

Wouldn't mind him partnering Smalling for a few games to see how they work out.

See I feel that at his age he needs a commanding centre back next to him. Which I think isn't Smallings best quality. There always seems to be a lack of communication between him and someone, whether it be with De Gea or like the other day against Spurs and with Blind.

The strength, speed and composure for an 18 year old is actually astonishing. Pretty sure he played DM for Ajax so I imagine he would be more comfortable as a midfielder, but yeah He looks a very exciting player

I have only seen him in the last two games but from that I rate him more highly than CBJ and Varela. I think he has a lot of quality but you are right that he maybe lacks a bit of positional discipline at right back. You can see his enthusiasm and willingness to go forward but he will need to learn. For me he's as exciting a prospect as Rashford.

From what I have seen from him in both under 21's and the first team he is my favourite prospect.

He seemed more willing that Rashford in under 21 matches. Not saying Rashford hasn't been brilliant but his progress shocks me a lot more than Fosu-Mensah's.

I agree he's wasted at the back a bit he loves getting forward and is great at reading the game already, makes a lot of interceptions, would love to see him in midfield for a game or two.

[–]black_squireMartial 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

I don't think what you perceive as him being caught out is actually as it seems. He got caught out twice yesterday, but for the most part, Fosu Mensah has been played as a drifting RB because of his ability to cover ground so quickly and make those necessary bold tackles. This allows for the option to have him as an overload in the midfield as well as his venturing up front.

He's versatility as both a defender and an attacking contributor means as a RB he gets to play significantly more roles than the normal RB. The case can be made that he's a better DM, but I think having him in defense is the best right now.

I really wish we could play 4-3-3. Just like young Pogba in Juve played besides Vidal, Pirlo or Marchisio, TFM could flourish in the 3-man midfield, without having that much responsibility as in other positions - full back or one of two holding mids in 4-2-3-1.

He's nothing like Pogba. TFM is a destroyer when played in midfield, his on ball ability is good for a CB but limited for a midfielder

Pereira - Tim Fosu - Weir

[–]doesnt_like_pantsHerrera 2ポイント3ポイント  (7子コメント)

I don't think Pereira's got the skill set and mentality to play no. 8

He's much more attack minded and doesn't really have the grit to get stuck into a midfield battle.

He could play the hybrid 8/10 role that Iniesta played in Barca's midfield 3 though.

[–]azogthorinThere's only one Darren Fletcher

That's what I was trying to convey. Couldn't get the formatting to work.

More of a midfield three that we saw last season, Fosu-Mensah holding, Weir box-to-box, and Pereira as the most advanced midfielder like Fellaini.

How good is Weir?

[–]doesnt_like_pantsHerrera 0ポイント1ポイント  (3子コメント)

He's pretty good. He's been compared to Carrick by a few people. I'm not sure he'll make it for us in all honesty.

I think the next no. 6/8 to actually crack the first team will be Gribbin. That kid is something else altogether.

Yeah I really like the look of Gribbin. He's fuckin my age and is already so tall and strong..dont you think gribbin is more of a #10 though? but I'd love for him to be a 6/8, just think he's more of a 10

[–]ThatStiffyAceJones | The English Battle Tank 0

I prefere Weir and Gribbin to be a bit more forward because they contribute a lot to the attack, but considering Weir was a fullback by trait I think he would do a great job at RM.

Not sure about Gribbin's defensive contribution.

[–]doesnt_like_pantsHerrera 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I don't know. He's played a pretty advanced role for most of his youth but it's not like he's inept defensively.

I hope he can add a bit of steel to his game and become the kind of box to box player that can really drive at defences. He's got the skill and vision to be a pure 10 but given his stature and potential physique I think he'd do more damage in a deeper role. Either way he's a class prospect and I've got no doubt we'll see him in the first team in the next 2 years.

[–]doesnt_like_pantsHerrera 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Ah yeah, on point. I'd love to see that set up come back. Granted we didn't look great against a counter attack but that was the most potent we'd looked going forward in years.

That would be a dream midfield 3 if they develop to their full potential. They certainly all stood out at youth level at least.

In my opinion of a 3 man midfield out of out youth players I would prefer Willock in the defensive midfield role, Fosu Mensah in the box to box centre mid role and play Pereira just ahead of that.

Saw this on a YouTube Review - thought will share -

It's like we've seen him before

As if his name was Paul

Up the field he'll take the ball

Coming back he's our Great Wall

Down the flanks or in the centre

He's monumental that Fosu-Mensah.

Haha I like that.

I was at the West Ham game yesterday and the fans tried to get a song started for him in: Lets go Fosu-Mensah. Lets go Fosu-Mensah, na na na na (In the tune of 'lets go fucking mental'). Didn't really seem to get going though.

You said it yourself - hes best as a midfielder and he currently plays right back as a midfielder. Very aggressive and not too worried about leaving space in behind.

Does he lack positional sense, or was he brought up in another culture and are we looking at a cultural difference?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuPbN_GkFmc

People complained even after the Spurs game that his positioning was off, but when Darmian came in, creating this more organised looking shape, 3 goals in a few minutes happened. What if TMF's instincts were right and to counter Spurs he did well playing more close to the CB's? This last game I looked at his number of interceptions, clearances and he rules at the top:

It is almost as much as the next 3 combined. Keeping the shape or smelling danger and be proactive about it? Taking initiative and put the fire out? I disagree with you that he solves problems that he created earlier. I see it the other way around. I think he spots danger sooner than others and goes to places to quickly kill it. Look at this video:

Second half he is suddenly in midfield and who gives that ball on Martial that with a good control would have been a great goal scoring opportunity? How is that not actually taking the initiative back as soon as possible and reading well where to be to force this happening?

Here we go again. I swear this sub just never learns. Anytime we have a youngster in good form, this sub rates them as the next Cantona, Scholes, Neville etc. I'm not saying he won't come good, but this sub constantly jumps the gun on players.

Blackett, McNair, Januzaj, Wilson just to name a few

Did you even read the post?

It was more in agreement with OP than against him

this sub rates them as the next Cantona, Scholes, Neville etc.

Nonsense.

Blackett, McNair, Januzaj, Wilson just to name a few

I can't recall anyone comparing Blackett, McNair or Wilson to any of the greats.

Hyperbole.

Januzaj and Wilson are still really good lol so is Mcnair

Is that a joke? They're all bang average

No they're not. How can you tell when Januzaj hasnt been given the chance. James wilson is more talented than rashford but wilsons been unlucky rashford has been very lucky and taken his chance very well. simple as that

Sheer hypocrisy, how can you say Januzaj is really good then claim he hasn't been given a chance? If Wilson is so good why has he been shipped out on loan and barely had an impact last season?

[–]ThatStiffyAceJones | The English Battle Tank 0

Januzaj certainly has talent but you can't say he hasn't been given a chance.

Wilson hasn't been doing bad for Brighton either, he's 19 playing in the Championship. Not just that but Brighton also have a great chance of getting promoted and all their first team forwards are fit and can constantly handle the physicality of the Championship.

His scoring record isn't even bad for his age there, I don't get why people say he's a flop at Brighton. Lingard went championship and did meh, but now he's doing a better job at AM than Mata.
