Summary

The post-crib crawl is a pattern of behaviors by girls where as they enter the adolescent stage, realizing they are nearing or have just started potty training, they clean up their behavior, attitudes, and presentation, in order to stand on their own two feet.

Watch and reflect on these behaviors when you see them, and realize that she may not be ready to leave those diapers behind.

Body

Children know that eventually they'll have to leave the crib behind and sleep in their own beds. When they reach this stage, realizing they'll also have to stop using diapers, they may abruptly modify their behavior and attitudes. Included in the post-crib crawl are a wide variety of behaviors meant to mimic a toddler:

• Using utensils
• Object permanence
• Less reliance on diapers
• Sleeping in a bed
• Tantrums
• Need for story time
• The ability to speak

Any parent who observes this transformation will be absolutely flabbergasted. The kid's walking! She can ask for cookies! A person meeting her for the first time during this phase will be thinking oh there's a normal toddler growing up and changing!

But of course the cough syrup is a bitter medicine, and we all know the outcome here. The baby can only walk for so long. She might want a nap. She might hate broccoli. And then she might start liking broccoli! She'll probably wet the bed. Ah, one of the many stages of life.

Lesson learned

Human beings don't pop out of the womb in their final form.
