My dream is to take the basis that is the current Bitcoin wiki, but we make it distributed. Much like Bitcoin itself is. This opens the content up to a lot of people that may want to put an hour or two into cleanup and new content. Using github or a similar git-hosting service to do merges of each others content.

To do this, I created a converter from the old wiki to a system called 'ikiwiki' which uses git as its database format. The converter is not ideal and not finished. But I think its good enough for people to play with it and use it for their own usecases.

I'd love to have people help out.

  • Create a nicer css
  • actually host this
  • make ikiwiki templates to fit the ones used in mediawiki..
  • research the ikiwiki equivalent of mediawiki constructs used. (for instance the {{category:foo}} one could be mapped to something similar.

And bugfinding as well. :)

Notice that actual editing of the content be overwritten by further refinements. So that can maybe wait a little longer.

This is great news, and thanks for getting this started.

I will be looking to help whenever I can spare a little time.

There's a Wiki engine on Zeronet, if you want to take the distributed aspect to the next level.

Do you have a link for more info (on the Wiki engine specifically)?

And why not continuing/enriching the existing http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki ?
For new comers will be hard to go around to so many sources.

Maybe read my posts, they go into that.

  • its centralized.
  • its biased
  • it has been ill-maintained.
  • it is under the control of a small number of people.
