From this page:

Systematic and/or continued actions to torment or demean someone in a way that would make a reasonable person (1) conclude that reddit is not a safe platform to express their ideas or participate in the conversation, or (2) fear for their safety or the safety of those around them.

This doesn't mean "put trigger warnings on everything", this means don't tell people to kill themselves, don't doxx, don't stalk people. It's pretty obvious, in my opinion.

Yes, this applies to subreddits, and this kerfuffle isn't the first time subs have been banned for this.

(1) conclude that reddit is not a safe platform to express their ideas or participate in the conversation

Please define what "safe" means in this sentence.

protected from or not exposed to danger or risk; not likely to be harmed or lost.

Now you have to define what danger and risk mean. On the internet. Keep in mind your definitions will be used to decide if other people should be punished.

edit: And I almost forgot, you can then point me to rule, blog post, or admin comment which would agree with your definitions.

This is a private website, not a court of law you fucking dip.

If it were a court of law they would at least have this power they think they have to enact their moral opinions without consequence.

It's not hurting me that they're like "hey, I know, let's set our own website on fire by being a bunch of inconsistent yammering ninnies."

They have all the power they want because they OWN THE FUCKING WEBSITE.

When are you idiots going to get the concept of ownership through your fat skulls?

They have all the power they want? You know what bankruptcy is, right? Do you think "THE FUCKING WEBSITE" is some kind of magic alien crystal?

They have all the power they want?

Yes, they own it

You know what bankruptcy is, right?

Yes, it's something that happens when you fail to foster an environment that generates revenue. In the case of reddit, allowing harassment from toxic communities that were pretty well and hated by the majority of the userbase would have eventually led to bankruptcy as legitimate advertisers and investors don't actually want to support that garbage.

Yes, they own it

You'll notice I've used the word consequences in this discussion. Funny how conversations become stupid when people start ignoring whichever parts of sentences they happen to dislike.

I'm glad, though, that you seem to understand what a business is, so let's close the loop on that at least: Businesses need customers and businesses can fail. Advertisers and investors want to support an actual service and not a marketing scam. Pissing off a huge portion of your existing userbase in pursuit of a cleaner image (while going all-in on sociobabble when we're already at peak sociobabble) is not the way to convey that posture.
