This was my experience:
I was a relatively early backer under 6500. Several months ago I sent a very nice email to Coolest folks requesting my cooler. 4 weeks later it arrived on my doorstep. I choose the path of least resistance and kept my cool in the words I chose to use in that email. Somehow or another it worked out for me for reasons I cannot know.
Here's my take on the recent announcement:
The fact that two thirds of all backers never received their coolest is shocking to me. I had no idea they were that far behind. Ryan/team overshot the COGS by many millions. I cant imagine any investor putting money into this business to satisfy 40K plus existing backers waiting for delivery. I would expect copycat products out this holiday season anyways.
What I can tell you from my personal experience is that the Coolest Cooler is a great product. It's very well built and has lasted the abuse my sons and I have put it through. I can understand you wouldn't want to invest another $97 into this. If I were in your shoes, I would feel the same frustration having never put my hands on this product...but I have. With that said, I think it's worth the $97 extra to get yours before July 4th. It's absolutely worth it. Pay the extra money and get the Cooler vs. a very good chance of losing your initial backer investment = No Brainer.
Look I'm a loyal backer to this, and i have just as much desire to receive my cooler. But if you break down the costs, Ryan is being pretty straight forward. Based on a cost of $185+$97=$282, shipping 62,642 units costs $17,665,000. So based on that price point, he has already received $13,285,226 and now wants another $4,136,274 from 42,642 backers (the $97). That equals a total of $17,421,500 that he will have received through Kickstartet which is less then what he says he needs. So, based on this, Ryan is not spending millions upon millions on himself with Kickstarter money. Now I don't know Ryan and all of the info he has passed off may not be accurate, but based on this, he looks genuine. Figure in research and devleopment, operating costs, and salaries, he is being pretty straight with us. This is just my opinion and I'm not saying that we might not be left empty handed, because we still might. But the numbers look good.
I'm not sure where I'm at anymore. Last I see I was batch 52 in February 2016. Anyhow I am meeting with my FBI friends in NY. We are possibly looking at a 13 million dollar multi state and country fraud. That's a lot of jail time!
Email Susan Towers. I asked her in November if she could expedite my cooler shipment (backer 31,000) and she said no problem. Got it in early December and couldn't be happier.
What's pathetic of this peice of shit is that ryan promised our coolers last year I have the emails that state that also, he states that there are no promises but in kickstarter... but he made the promise when we first decided to back this peice of shit!!! Almost 13m and he still needs more from us to finish a product he stated would be completed in a yr... this shit doesn't even respond to any pm's, what kind of fucken person, let alone of bitch does that.... be a man ryan and take responsibility for ur actions and promises.... you should try answering my pm and do one of options....
I'm okay with it. As long as I eventually get a coolest, I'm fine to wait. Just don't go under before then, regardless of how much everyone here is trying to make that happen (IE fake Amazon reviews... if no-one did that, we'd all have our coolests by now). Cheers and good luck.
Thanks for the update, and I admire your persistence. I'll probably go with the $97 option although I'm in the uk so may it be an option.
The talk of a law suit is crazy...support the project. That is what being a backer is about.
If the money was too much to you then you didn't do the right risk assessment.
I got my refund over a year ago but still follow this fiasco. Fact: There will be a universal cure for cancer before this situation resolves itself. This brand is tarnished beyond repair, trust me. Once people realize they are about to spend $500+ on a cooler with a blender than charges their phone, they will take the needle out of their arm and realize how ridiculous that is in reality. I wish Coolest traded under the symbol CLST on the NYSE. Id short the hell out of it.

I am backer 22,255 when will you stop with the excuses, half truths and gouging all those that trusted you, gave you money and deliver? How much have you taken out of the over $13 million you collected? Why would anyone send you more money? Send the cooler or refund our money.
Just a reminder. Our contract is with Ryan not coolest LLC therefore he is personally responsible and if the company goes bankrupt he is still on the hook for everything he owns.
Ryan,
This whole Coolest pay more to get it sooner is BEYOND A JOKE.
I paid $285USD almost two years ago to have the item between 1-2 years ago, and now you are suggesting I pay more to get it sooner? You have to be $%^&ing kidding me.
Backer number: 52754
Amount Pledged: $285USD
I want that refunded NOW....Not a week or two before an imaginary shipment date that will never happen, NOW!
Regards,
Pissed off backer!
I've backed a lot of projects and I'm fine with being patient, often creators get in way over their head. I will say, I would really like a definitive date for when I can expect my cooler. A shipping map was sent out a number of updates ago but it only had numbers, not dates. I will happily remain patient if I'm still going to get my cooler but I think we all deserve more detail on proposed dates. If it's $97 to get it before July 4th, what is the projection for those who don't pay $97, August? January?
I would really love a refund, and know I can't get one. I don't know what's worse, knowing people did get theirs or knowing that lots of others will pay more or retail and be sitting on the beach next to me-while I never get one. did I mention it was a gift for someone? :(
Yeah, the "pay for it sooner because I need it this summer" line sounds more like "we need more money and this is a good way for us to recoup some of our cost overruns." Who in their right mind would have planned a party around this cooler for this summer, after enduring two years of disappointment? It's a sneaky way to ask for another round of funding. I am also tired of hearing about how we're getting such a great discount, and how that is the coolest for us. They promised the world, got it manufactured, and are surprised that it's expensive? Also, I do not remember being asked about options that would allow them to deliver at a lower price point along the way. We only got snazzy videos about how quality is job one for the coolest, and how the coolest was going to do us right. The perfect has been the enemy of the good on this project.
The most straightforward path forward is to start up retail sales. The company stays a going concern and we eventually get our coolers. However, I am with others on here who say 2-4 coolers to our 1? Please. Give me a promise like backers get every other cooler, and I am right there with you. Plus, can't you go live sales, promise somewhat delayed fulfillment, get a backlog of orders (just like you did here), then go offer the instant demand to your manufacturer or an investor for short-term credit? Something is not adding up. I am not sure that the integrity and quality of the product (it seems really nice with no stone left un-turned on the manufacturing) is transferring to your dealings with the customer. Finally, I appreciate the transparency, but I think the Coolest has to find a better way to actually be the Coolest.
I want I refund. I payed $285 2 years ago plus extra for a battery ext. we all were promised a cooler with in 1-2 years all all we got was excuses. Way too may excuses. Just keep sending is money. I'm goin lg to see if any of my law enforcement buddies can look into this scam and charge him on a federal level.
I haven't posted a comment since I pledged on July 11th, 2014. I've been very patient, but this last update made me feel sick. I'm Backer number 12,351 of 62,642 and I haven't received my cooler. He stated that 20,000 had received their coolers. How were those 20,000 picked? Were 20,000 even shipped? How do we know?
When I saw that he was asking for more money, I had the sickening feeling I was being scammed. I now feel like I've been strung along by a smooth talker who knew he was going to ask for more money a long time ago. Very disappointed.
The initial goal was to raise $50,000 and you raised $13,300,000 and yet you're out of money. HILARIOUS. I hope you go to prison, Ryan Grepper, and then you will really get to know the coolest cooler, ha ha.

This whole thing has made me so angry with myself that I would fall for it! One of the reasons I bought it was so my son and family would have something unique on the beach , camping, etc. I was one of the first people to sign on. I told my DIL's bro about it and he signed on and he got his almost a year ago and I'm still waiting. You tell just enough truth and razzle dazzle to sell just enough to keep on sucking money out of people... sounds like a certain politician I read about. If there's a class action suit coming up, I want in. I'm too old and don't have enough income to say well this is a lesson for the future.... It hurts!
Anyone that knows of a Class Action Lawsuit pertaining to this fiasco PLEASE contact me @ lori_tom@att.net I'd be interested in joining if they don't start issuing requested refunds immediately.
Is shitty can buy it on eBay at auction for usually$350 -$400 and the people selling with a buy now have like 5 to 6 coolers for sale seen one seller sell like 10 of them already and the rest of us can't get one get a bank loan leveraging the company or something
Quite frankly this company's only option is to file a Chapter 11 (or 7) bankruptcy. All this talk of a class action lawsuit is useless because the automatic stay provisions of the Bankruptcy code will shut-down any such lawsuit.
Management should have reached out to real talent when the numbers didn't make sense in the beginning. A better idea for people here is to sue the deep pockets. Kickstarter made good money on this project and they ought to have reasonably known that deliveries were not possible.
Im not at all confident that Coolest can raise the $15 million they need. There is simply not enough of a market for a $449 cooler. So why pony up the $4 to $5 million needed just to fulfill the backorders when there is little liklihood the company can even make money?
My suggestion is to expect a bankruptcy filing unless the company talks to a financier that can reorganize the company. It may be possible -- but it will be a daunting task.
Let me ask you a question, all the extras I ordered battery, speaker how come I haven't gotten any of that?? I'm pretty patient & understand start up but if I pay you $97 more & I don't get the cooler by July 4th, cool I fly out to where ever you live ( on your dime) knock you on your ass for being an idiot?? How kind is this guy eh? He has offered to,let me get scammed out of another $97. What a great guy. This reminds me of the early days of eBay ( way back when it was a real free for all in the 1990's) and people were scamming products all the time and you had to pay up front to the seller via a money order or bank check before they would ship. Massive scamming especially in the computer and computer parts business started up to the point where Janet Reno, Atty General at the time under Bubba Clinton spoke about the level of fraud. One of the scams was to get someone hooked on a purchase, say a laptop for 100, and then after they had sent the money the scammer would email with an extra bonus and offer, let's say a computer bag and extra battery for just 50 more. So you send the extra 50 and two weeks later the checks were gone and that eBay account had turned up disabled.
This latest update is right along those lines. I am not paying you another nickel, I already increased the original amount by 20 when you came back to us shortly after closing the funding period and said you miscalculated the shipping costs and needed us to kick in another 20. Remember? I will give this scammer one thing, he is shameless. Go pick someone else's pocket. I do not even want the damn thing now because it will forever remind me of this painful, inexcusable nonsense. If I do get it my cooler, the YouTube will be about how many 30-06 holes it takes at 100 yards to completely disable the crap.
I'm backer 15,099 and still no update on when the cooler will be shipped.
If you are gonna drag your feet longer on the cooler its self show me some good faith, send me the speakers and the extras I ordered first... You should have plenty of money to send the backers their coolest cooler. August 2014 you collected $200 for me and yet no update.
This is getting out of hand. I would like a physical ship date or I forsee a law suit upcoming.
Look, not only did I pay for the cooler and it's delivery charge, but I also paid for an extra battery, speaker, and blender package, bringing my total to about $350. If you can promise that an extra $97 bucks will ensure we'll get our products, why not give us some incentive to do so ?? For example : pay the $97 extra, and when you're back on your feet financially, you can reinburse us in the form of "extras". An extra battery, speaker, or other items totalling $97 to those who shell out more money, would go a LONG way to those who were skipped over. What bothers me is that there was no rhyme or reason to how they were shipped and to whom. How can I be 23,000 on the list, but someone who's 60,000 get theirs BEFORE me ?? Please don't tell me about color choice, because if that were the case, you should've only made ONE damn color and got them out as quick as you could to those who've waited, and are STILL waiting. Give people some incentive to pay more, don't tell us how much we're STILL saving, and get this thing done. Our patience is beyond repair, JUST DO IT !!
Get your refunds now. They will never deliver the coolers. It's a ponzi scheme now. Pay another $97 and you can be the captain of a new plane. Con artists, scammers, liars. Fuck the Coolest team, and fuck Ryan in particular.

It hurts!

Denis Plante 34 minutes ago
Ryan,
This whole Coolest pay more to get it sooner is BEYOND A JOKE.
I paid $285USD almost two years ago to have the item between 1-2 years ago, and now you are suggesting I pay more to get it sooner? You have to be $%^&ing kidding me.
Backer number: 54802
Amount Pledged: $285USD
I want that refunded NOW....Not a week or two before an imaginary shipment date that will never happen, NOW!
Regards,
Pissed off backer!

Class action, refund now.

I wasn't going to share his number expecting at least some actual 'path forward' or some thread or reasonableness in Ryan's update, but alas, it was not to be.
By popular demand and because CC should hear directly from each and every one of you!!!!
Here is the head of CC Marketing's cell phone number. Call, text, tell them that you expect them to perform.
VERY IMPORTANT :::
Be professional and appropriate.
If they are going to take our money and run, why shouldn't we dial or text them and tell them what we expect.
Again. I can not stress enough, be professional. This is the only number I can find for CC and if we want then to listen, we need to communicate appropriately.
+1 (917) 405-6563 (not sharing the person's name)

You are a child of God, I will pray for you, it has to be tough to have disappointed so many people!
I will also pray for my Coolest, if it is Gods will, I will have it before June!

Here's an idea, man up. Are you gonna ship my cooler or not? Tell us you got in WAY over your head and your gonna make it right. At this point I'll take my $200 refund. Thought this was a good idea(and it was) had we received it. Quit jerking us around, quit asking for more damn $$. Just be up front with us one time.

So they actually have units on hand to sell to retail channels?
Ridiculous.
They are holding stock that has been paid for by us.
