Is Romelu Lukaku worth £65million? (self.reddevils)

Everton have put a very, very high price tag on Romelu Lukaku. Is he worth the reported price ?

The stats that show why Lukaku in demand :

1- He's only 22 years old

2- Proven Premier League Goalscorer

3- Scored the most goals among the current u23 players in the top 5 leagues.

4- Already played 268 professional games and scored 119 goals in his short career.

5- Since the 2012/13 season only Sergio Aguero 62 and Luis Suarez 54 can better his total goals of 52.

What a beast.

No. A 65 million pound forward should be able to shred Daley Blind. I can't imagine Blind handling Suarez with the ease he managed Lukaku.

Look how poor Everton is overall. They are not helping him and it's really hard for centre forward to be cut off upfront like he was against us. All they did were long balls on him.

To be honest, though. If Deulofeu was slightly more consistent (because he has bags of potential) and Everton were stronger at the back, I think they would be higher up in the table. Personally, I'd take both of them and maybe Stones as well.

Worth is measured on how important he would be to making the squad successful. He scores/has scored many times for Everton this season and has been the mainstay in their squad; without him I feel they would be closer to relegation. So by himself he has proven to be extremely valuable and worth a lot to Everton.

If he can implement the same attitude here, scoring goals etc. He is of course worth every penny. A.) Not our money in the first place so I really couldn't care less and B.) If I were to care, I'm not concerned because I'd have reason to believe he would 'net' us a good return and possibly contribute lots of goals for this club.

He's worth 65m+ If you asked me and I wouldn't shy out from trying to get him or Aubamayang this summer.

For that amount of money he'd have to be first team every game which would mean Martial would either see a much reduced game time or would continue to play on the wing. (Unless we were to change to a 2 striker formation next season)

For the record, and if anyone would like to comprehend: I believe Rooney will be leaving this summer.

Martial, Lukaku, Ibrahimovic. Those 3 are quite easily interchangeable. Martial can wing-play some times, you could even have the front five of:

I'm still not convinced he can perform consistently. He's had some great spurts of form but over the past 3 years he's had quite a few quiet patches.

He will cost an arm and a leg too but it's hard to decide how much that matters.

I don't think he's worth that much at all. That's probably at least £15m than I would've said. I guess it is all subjective though. He's young, talented and in demand.

No. We spent a lot of money already on Martial to be our future number 9 and for what its worth, Lukaku hasn't impressed me consistently enough this season to warrant the pricetag. His goal tally for this season is relatively impressive but he is lazy and goes missing far too often for my liking. For a player that has been a regular starter for 7 years now, you'd have expected him to ironed out most if not all inconsistencies to his game. I also worry as to just how good he can be. He is very good for his age but there are so many young players playing at a higher level with far less experience. I look to other top talents past and present and with far less experience, they are playing way above Lukaku's level at a very similar age e.g. his national team mates Hazard and De Bruyne. Does he belong in the same sentence as the likes of Alaba, Kane, Giminez etc? For £65m, you expect a world class player regardless of their age. Spending that much on a player we don't need would be absolute madness.

Probably in this day and age. Potentially he's just waiting to explode - Put him in a world class team and he may have a world class goal-scoring record. In which case, at his age he's worth that.

Categorically: no he is not.

143 EPL appearances, 60 goals. 0.4 goals per game. Each club he's played at he's hovered around 0.4x goals per game. £65m is insane for someone with that record.
