Freaking neutral jump for crying out loud! As a Laura main that is painful to watch.

What if he did standing hard punch then and got swatted out of the air?

[–]STierGamefreak 12ポイント13ポイント  (26子コメント)

It's not as simple as that. He would have to GUESS correctly because if he is wrong then he eats the air throw. In other words Mika is stupid.

Even worse than that, what I actually think he is afraid of is catching a meaty normal. Especially if mika has v trigger. If you try and jump away, this is the worst thing that can happen because you go right back into the blender, and a nadeshiko mixup comes next. Even though native didn't have trigger, I understand krones decision. I bet he was going for a late tech/meaty block because those would be his best chance at getting the pressure off. Also, this matchup is bad for Laura anywhere on the screen.

It's kinda crazy though that if you have no invincible reversal, that a character has the power to compel you to block and eat command throws four times in a row, because each command throw you take is better than the alternative until it isn't and you're stunned. Laura has to play PERFECTLY to stay out of the corner in this matchup, and Mika can faceroll to get you into the corner.

I admit I didn't stick with Laura too long, but I never felt that Mika actually had the advantage in neutral in their matchup. Laura's got great anti-airs, great air-to-air (actually has a decent success rate challenging Mika's j.LK, unlike some), and has responsive and damaging replies to Mika overcommitting. I wouldn't go as far as to rule it in Laura's favor, since it's often going to be whoever gets the first knockdown wins, but I don't think she's out of the fight.

Most of the mika's I play though are pretty good. Almost everything you listed that keeps Laura in the game involves Mika jumping. If you play a Mika that does not jump predictably as a good player would, laura will have a rough time. Laura doesn't have the luxury of waiting for anti airs because fireballs don't work against mika. I can go into detail, but it would be a long post. If you play a mika that knows how to mix up their dropkicks (not use them at every opportunity, early release to crush counter punish attempts, etc.), knows the jump/tech os, slide or dropkicks your fireballs, and properly spaces a CR.HP, you are at a HUGE disadvantage as Laura. And you don't have many opportunities to find out all of this info.

Well, by "Mika overcommitting" I was talking about bad dropkicks and stuff like her irish whip whiffing. Laura can respond to that in the neutral if she's on point and her normals are overall better than Mika's.

Yep, and that's what I meant when I said good mika's won't do those things. When youre talking matchups, you have to assume highest level play. Any fast normal can stop a bad dropkick, and everyone can punish a bad Irish whip. A good mika isn't going to give you those opportunities very often, if at all. And yeah Laura's normals are better, but really, almost everyone's normals are better on average than mikas. A good mika isn't going to use her bad normals. They're going to use her best normals in the most effective way. And mikas best normals are more effective in neutral against laura than lauras best normals are against mika. mika has no reason to respect Laura's good footsie range, and Laura has every reason to respect mika's best buttons. Mika has great anti airs, has great options right outside of laura's max footsie range, and great options at lauras max footsie range. Mika's st.Mk can go over Laura's best low in neutral and beat it, mika can charge dropkick right outside of Laura's St.HK range (her best footsie normal) and Laura had to respect it. mikas CR.HP, when well spaced, is safe, active as eff, and beats all of Laura's normals clean once it's active. Trust me. Ive tried. You have to READ a well spaced cr.hp to stuff it, and if your read is wrong, to the corner you go. And neutral jumping it will get you AA grabbed or worse, AA reset into mix-ups.

Mika and laura have the same problems when it comes to taking pressure, but a good laura has to take many more risks than mika does to start her mix-ups, and if you escape Laura's mixup, the neutral starts again, which isn't the case for mika. Laura definitely doesn't win this matchup at all IMO and it definitely isn't even.

If you haven't guessed, I have a friend that plays mika and knows this fucking matchup inside out and backwards and he can play it with his stick upside down only using his eyeballs. :)

I don't agree with your assessment that Laura's best footsie normal is s.HK. It's one of her slower options, not very safe on block, and doesn't have a wonderful hurtbox. It's pretty clearly meant for high profiling low attacks and you can see how much other shit Laura has that could contest Mika's buttons if you check her hitboxes. I had excellent luck using s.HP and c.HP as footsie tools in her matches, both faster on startup and safer on block than s.HK (the only one of her normals that isn't jab safe against a character with a 3 frame jab, a group in which Mika is included). Tons of Laura's normals are also plus on block, including probably the very best s.LK in the game. Special mention can even go out to f.HP, covering a lot of distance, safe on block and a solid +4 if it hits even without the follow-up. It really sounds to me like you're just overly reliant on one tool and need to diversify your neutral.

It feels like a 5-5 matchup but I feel like Laura has to do more work to win and avoid the corner like the plague
