We're not servants. We're professionals doing a job.

Of course, that job is literally serving people.

You're not wrong, Walter, you're just an asshole.

If anything, the waiter is being an asshole by implying that servants are somehow unprofessional.

When your job is literally to be nice, to bring people things and clean up, you are a servant. It's ok, but let's not lie about this

It's pretty clear what sort of connotation comes with calling somebody a servant.

It is? Is it now an offensive job title?

(GOOD EXPLANATIONS. I VALUE YOUR INPUT)

Quit being an idiot, a server and a servant are simply two different things. A servant is privately employed to perform domestic services. Nothing about a restaurant is domestic.

Servers are no more servants than anyone else that performs a service for wage, and calling them servants is demeaning.

Servants work much more difficult and varied jobs than waiters.

And since our culture is fucking insane, I am literally paying the waiter out of my own pocket. There is no difference.

So is referring to a Fireman as a "public servant" now considered offensive? What ISN'T considered offensive? Do you have a list?

Why are waiters so whiny? SO MUCH OF REDDIT IS JUST WAITERS BITCHING

You're still being completely asinine.

A public servant is known as such specifically because they are employed by government, it's a different meaning behind the word.

Feel free to look it up yourself.

There is no difference.

Except for the very big difference of you not being the private employer of that person and they are not being paid to do domestic work. AKA, the entire definition of the kind of servant we're talking about.

What ISN'T considered offensive?

Just call them servers or waiters and quit bitching maybe?

SO MUCH OF REDDIT IS JUST WAITERS BITCHING

Uh huh

Awesome, now I don't have to tip. Thanks, man!

(Serving food and cleaning tables is ABSOLUTELY "domestic" work)

Awesome, now I don't have to tip.

I mean you actually don't have to, although some places will charge gratuity. The money also doesn't go to your server, it goes to the restaurant which is then supposed to divy that tip up between the server and kitchen staff that was involved in preparing your meal and cleaning up after it. Sometimes servers just pocket the cash but that's not how it's supposed to go.

Serving food and cleaning tables is ABSOLUTELY "domestic" work

Just because you might also do it in a home doesn't make it domestic work. You seem to struggle a lot with basic words. Regardless, they are still not privately employed by you. You might subsidize their pay, you do not employ them. This is not a difficult concept.

I understand you want to make some kind of point (although I can't imagine what that might be) but it really just makes you look like an idiot.

A server is no more a domestic worker than a plumber is because you sometimes snake your pipes.
